When the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or Daesh) captured Iraq’s second largest city of Mosul in 2014, it heralded a period of unimaginable terror and destruction. A young man named Omar, writing under the pen name of ‘Mosul Eye’, secretly reported from the besieged city unveiling to the world apocalyptic scenes as militants desperately searched for him. For the first time, Mosul and the Islamic State tells the untold stories from inside the Islamic State’s reign of terror over this ancient city, the pursuit of justice in its aftermath, and the enduring struggle of its people for a better future.

I've never come across anything like this before.
I've never come across anything like this before. This podcast is surprisingly high-quality and you'll find yourself craving each next episode like it's become your new favourite food. Keep in mind this is not light subject matter, so I don't know how they do it.
What's it like to be in the fall of a modern-day city? What's it like to be occupied by terrorists? Why did it happen? How did it happen? MATIS blazes through the answers in a story told by a diverse group of experts, Mosuli citizens, and even some top level Iraqi officials. It seems like some of them are talking about the fall and occupation of Mosul for the first time and from their unique perspective. Listen to the first minute and you'll be hooked.
