Kevin Parker: “May You Live, but May You Rot”丨MURDERISH Ep. 164

There are two sides to every story. Somewhere in between varying accounts of a shared experience lies the truth, but the deceased can’t share their version of events. When relying on only one narrative, the truth can become muddied and leave us scrambling for answers.

The case we’re discussing in this episode wasn’t big news. The mystery surrounding 47-year-old Kevin Parker’s stabbing death mostly fueled local interest. Kevin’s family and loved ones were determined to get closure and fill in the blanks for a crime that seemed to have no motive.

Only two people know the full truth about events leading to Kevin’s death. And one of them was killed. Let’s dive into this 2019 Michigan homicide and see if you can decide - was this murder, self-defense, or a lethal clash of personalities?

Best of MURDERISH: E37 "Father Ed Hinds"

This episode of MURDERISH brings us to the East Coast of the United States, to the Garden State of New Jersey. When the battered and cold body of Father Ed Hinds was discovered on the floor of the church rectory, covered in blood, nobody had a clue who could have killed him, or why. The community would quickly learn who brutally murdered the Catholic Priest, but jurors would have to decide whether the murderer snapped in a fit of rage over the Priest’s actions, or if the murder was motivated by the need to cover up a 20-year-old secret. Join me as I walk you through the murder of Father Ed Hinds.

Madison McGhee: “Did You Kill My Dad?” | MURDERISH Ep. 163

Madison McGhee: “Did You Kill My Dad?” | MURDERISH Ep. 163

In this episode of MURDERISH, Jami sits down with her friend and fellow podcaster, Madison McGhee, to discuss Madison’s investigation of her father’s murder. Madison’s father, John Cornelius “J.C.” McGhee, was gunned down in the doorway of his own home in Belmont County, Ohio in 2002. His case has remained unsolved since then. As a child, Madison was told that her father died from a heart attack. It wasn’t until Madison was 16 years old that she learned the truth about his untimely death. In 2023, Madison launched Ice Cold Case, the podcast, a serialized investigative podcast that seeks to solve J.C.’s cold case. Madison’s grass-roots investigation has unearthed a plethora of information in her father’s case. Madison walks Jami through the details of her father’s cold case, and tells how it all unfolded …from learning the truth about his murder, to where her investigation stands today.

Unlocked: “You’re Not My Pod Daddy” | Serial Streamers TV Club

In this episode of Serial Streamers Jami recaps the Netflix reality docuseries, Unlocked: A Jail Experiment. Jami gives listeners a solid Cliffs Notes version of the 2024 docuseries, and shares her own opinions on the unusual experiment that allows detention center inmates to be outside of their jail cells 24/7 with no deputies inside of the pod to watch over them. The experiment begins with some chaos, as inmates push boundaries and break rules which threatens their ability to continue participating in the experiment. Over time, however, inmates within the pod begin forming a community, learning to problem solve without violence, and living by the rules set forth by authorities without their constant presence. Jami answers the question of whether or not she’d drink hooch and get cross-faded on coffee cigs if she ever found herself locked up.

Karen Read: “The Crime that Broke Boston” | MURDERISH Ep. 162

Karen Read: “The Crime that Broke Boston” | MURDERISH Ep. 162

On January 29, 2022, Karen Read dropped off her boyfriend, John O’Keefe, at a house party in Canton, Massachusetts. When she awoke the next morning and found John not in bed, Karen became concerned. She drove around looking for him and eventually made her way to 34 Fairview Rd., the location of the house-party where she’d taken him earlier that morning. Karen screamed upon seeing John’s body lying in the front yard of the home, unconscious and covered in snow. John O’Keefe was dead. A murder investigation ensued, with Karen Read being the primary target. Karen’s defense, however, had a different theory. They posited that John O’Keefe was killed by someone who’d attended the party, and several partygoers, all members of law enforcement, helped to cover up the crime.

Update on My Original 1 Star Rating…

Below was my original review. I was a jerk. She’s providing me free content. No one is forcing me to listen. She’s good at making podcasts, which I believe to be her hobby. You should listen. I’ve listened to 90%. My sincere apologies.

This podcast is like one long run on sentence… You can hear the California brain rot in her voice.

Great content, but there are so many ads for such a short program. It’s just one after another.

New to podcasts…

But I hope they’re not all like this one. I’m trying to understand what all the hype is about. I don’t want to be mean, just honest: You can tell she was reading a script. I don’t know if there’s a word for it but I call it a hard period - When someone ends a sentence and they drop on the last word to accentuate the fact that there’s a period. Her delivery is very “La la la la bam. La la la la bam.” Every. Single. Line. Also, I know it’s free but it’s like 70% commercials. This probably would have been a less than 10 minute read had I just read it myself, which is the problem I’m having with podcasts in general so far. Guess I’ll try to find another one! Props to the researchers/writers: They’re the real talent and unsung heroes. Too bad the voice gets all the credit.
