In 1972 and 1973, young women, all of them known to be hitchhikers, were being found dead on the side of the road just outside of Santa Rosa, California. The murderer was never found.

In Yuba City, California, a farmer reported a trespassing incident on his property. What started as an illegal trash disposal complaint turned out to be a corpse buried between two trees. In the following days, 24 more bodies would be uncovered.
