Peters second letter is very similar to his first. His purpose in writing both letters was to stimulate the believers in Asia Minor to wholesome thinking by way of reminders (2 Peter 3:1). He opens the second letter with a very important declaration: God has given us everything we need for life and godliness.

Peter concludes his letter by reiterating his central theme: stand firm in faith amid suffering and persevere till the end.

We are called to clothe ourselves with humility toward one another. Humility ushers in the grace and favor of God. Humility facilitates freedom from our cares and anxieties. Humility results in being exalted by God at the proper time.

Peter charges all church leaders (elders) to be good shepherds of Gods flock by watching over the sheep. Elders are to serve as under-shepherds who follow the example of the Chief Shepherd, Jesus.

Peter encourages us to rejoice when we suffer for Christs sake! Thats easier said than done. It is only by the power of the Holy Spirit when our perspective and thinking have been transformed, we can recognize what the Lord is allowing in our earthly lives today for the sake of our heavenly lives tomorrow.
