Episode 29: Not Your Average Leadership Building (EPISODE TAKEOVER)

As young Hmong women professionals, we have had our share of great managers and mentors, and not-so-great leaders that we had to work with. In this day and age, what does it mean to be an authentic leader or mentor? How do we build a successful leadership pipeline to develop community leaders or mentors? We are ecstatic to have Doua Thor and KaYing Yang as co-hosts in this episode takeover! Doua and KaYing have been building power in the Hmong and larger AAPI community for decades. They explore what it means to be authentic leaders and how to build up capacity within our communities. Together, they remind us to be vulnerable and show up as ourselves while leading authentically. Tune in for a conversation between these two powerhouses as they share their own journeys and lessons learned. You will not want to miss it!

An OK podcast with few solutions

It’s slightly ironic a podcast boldly named “Not your average Mai” has four hosts who seem so homogeneous in their views. Makes me question why you need four hosts in the first place. I think they’re missing out on an opportunity to be really themselves and share divergent perspectives, even on the same issues. Instead, we get four individuals who just seem to agree with each other all the time, so while it may be reaffirming for those who already agree with them, there’s not much value for those who don’t subscribe to their school of thought.

Opinions and thoughts feel one sided

The podcast has good insight but lacks diverse thoughts and voices to enter the conversations. It doesn’t feel like it invites other opinions or draws upon different experiences to speak to opinions that may oppose the panels opinions.
