Civil War (2024) - Movie Review

Civil War (2024) - Movie Review

Civil War is an unflinching and unapologetic look at human nature and how the lines of politics and morals become blurred when people are left to fend for their own survival. I have zero doubts that this will be the most divisive film of 2024 for a plethora of reasons, most surrounding the fact that it’s uncomfortable to watch and might strike too close to home for American audiences. In a country that’s already fueled by political strife and on the verge of a controversial election, Civil War comes at a very tense time for the nation and doesn’t offer much by the way of comfort. It’s brutally honest in how it depicts humans and the collapse of society, so be warned because the violence and horror is not for the faint of heart.

    Femme (2023) - Movie Review

    Femme (2023) - Movie Review

Femme is a frightening and forceful look at revenge through the eyes of a young gay drag artist who's brutally attacked by a closeted homophobic psychopath. Leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination, this film never shies away from showcasing all the beauty and the horror associated with identifying as LGBTQ+. What we're witnessing here is a fictious depiction of the kind of violence and threats that people actually receive in real life simply for being themselves. Truthfully, this film isn't the easiest watch but it's one that feels absolutely necessary to further grasp the scope of what's happening to people suffering worldwide. The addition of revenge in this film's story made me incredibly curious to see how they might tackle taking on oppressors in a modern age. The final result makes for a shocking finish and undoubtedly sits Femme among the best releases of 2024!

Monkey Man (2024) - Movie Review

Monkey Man (2024) - Movie Review

Monkey Man is an outrageously ambitious debut from director Dev Patel who takes the revenge genre to India & holds nothing back as he battles for blood! Since he burst onto the scene with his rousing performance in Slumdog Millionaire, Dev Patel has quietly built a solid resume that's seen him tackle TV in The Newsroom with Aaron Sorkin, leading other terrific films like The Green Knight and Lion, and even dabbling in a few Wes Anderson short films. Taking all he's learned and all that he loves about film, Patel put his blood, sweat, tears, and wallet into getting Monkey Man made and it's a truly remarkable feat for a first time director to deliver on such a level. It's such an awesome thing to see Patel venture into new territory and swing for the fences his first time up to bat!

Late Night with the Devil (2024) - Movie Review

Late Night with the Devil (2024) - Movie Review

Late Night with the Devil is a captivating and paranormal peek into a fictitious late-night host’s warped reality while taping a horrifying Halloween special. Taking audiences back to a time where the television was a vessel for the unseen, this is a story of the horrifying things we began to see broadcast around the world as a spotlight was finally shone on all the sick and twisted people out there. As a nation grew more aware of occult and satanist groups in the country, the fear of the devil spread wide and far as people bore witness to unspeakable crimes. Now, imagine those same people sit down for late night television expecting comedy, only to find horror and the unthinkable…

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) - Movie Review

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) - Movie Review

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire sees the two most powerful creatures on Earth work together to face another world ending threat with power and playfulness. After the film’s predecessor Godzilla vs. Kong ended up on day-and-date streaming on HBO Max in 2021, it’s nice to see Legendary and WB promote this film as a theatrical experience post-covid. For decades these monsters all fought as men inside rubber suits, so it’s incredible to live in a time where those monsters look as real and as imposing as we’ve known they could be. Now we can only hope that they can fight as well together as they do alone.

A24 x IMAX Present: Ex Machina (2024) - Movie Review

A24 x IMAX Present: Ex Machina (2024) - Movie Review

A24 x IMAX Present: Ex Machina is one of three events organized as an opportunity to bring 2015's best film back to the big screen in premium & thundering format! Adding on to their incredible year so far reviving previous films in their format, IMAX adds an incredible new layer of sound and detail to an already immaculate film. A24 is a very savvy and intelligent production company that allows audiences a chance to see one of their standout films and advertise their new release that's also helmed by Ex Machina Director/Writer Alex Garland, Civil War. I was fortunate enough to speak with Alex Garland about Ex Machina and you can read that interview over at www.nicktiffany.com! Seeing that Ex Machina was my favorite film of 2015, I thought I'd take a look back and see how my thoughts had shifted after almost a decade. Enjoy and make sure you seek this film out immediately if you've yet to see it!

Fabulous Extension and REALness

This is the most engaging and encouraging invitation to explore the uncomfortable. Thank you for making this movie, producer, director, and author accessible to a new audience. You’ve really found your groove and mission. Each episode takes listeners into movies we probably wouldn’t venture into without your calm, friendly, encouraging companionship to consider these films.
