If you’ve ever felt guilty about something you did (or forgot to do), you’ve probably felt the need to make up for it. Not just to smooth things over, but to also help clear your conscience. As Christians, we can find ourselves in the same thinking - feeling the need to stick to do more good to make up for the wrong choices. We shouldn’t be stuck living according to human efforts but remember the freedom we are able to experience when living according to grace.

In this week’s teaching, we study Paul’s letter to the Galatians where he questions the legalists among them if they truly understand the law they wish to follow. Paul points us to Abraham and his two sons, one born through God’s promise and dependence on Him while the other is born of self reliance and slavery. We must ask ourselves if we belong to the spiritual children of promise or of slavery

Once we receive Jesus, we also receive the right to become children of God. Knowing this should change how we live our lives and inform us of our standing with God. It is like a parent’s love for a child, there is nothing more that can be done to improve standing or gain favor much like the parable of the prodigal son.
