The Resurrection & The Life - Jesus in His Own Words - John 11:1-44

The Resurrection & The Life - Jesus in His Own Words - John 11:1-44

As we wrap up our series looking at the words and phrases Jesus used to describe Himself, we look at the hope that we have in Him, the resurrection and the life. Jesus uses these words to describe Himself in the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Jesus did delay in traveling to Lazarus, as it gave a chance to show everyone His faithfulness to them. It was not out of lack of emotion or care, because Jesus was angered toward death and sin itself and sorrowed for those he loved overcome with grief and hurt. Ultimately, Jesus was victorious in conquering death, both for Lazarus and Himself, and this victory gives us hope and security of our eternal life.

The True Vine - Jesus in His Own Words - John 15:1

The True Vine - Jesus in His Own Words - John 15:1

This week we close our series looking at the different words and phrases Jesus used to describe Himself. When He called Himself the true vine, the disciples knew He was contrasting himself to the vine, the church of their day. Jesus was communicating that their connection to God would no longer be through people or a building, but through Jesus. As the branches, we are in search of a vine to connect to. Jesus, as the true vine, is the only source of life and fulfillment we find outside ourselves. God works in our lives to ultimately fulfill our purpose of producing fruit.

The Way, The Truth, and The Life - Jesus in His Own Words - John 14:1-14

The Way, The Truth, and The Life - Jesus in His Own Words - John 14:1-14

Jesus said I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Many struggle with the exclusivity of this claim, but we learned that Jesus was communicating the nature of our relationship with Him. He is our Bridegroom that has made a way for us to be brought into His Father’s house as His bride that has been bought with a price. This exclusivity is not intended to exclude anyone but rather to invite any who will come to him into the truth and the life that we were created for. We cannot find our own way to God, He is
the Way so our responsibility is simply to come to Him and respond to his love by faithfully loving him while we await his return.

The Good Shepherd - Jesus in His Own Words - John 10:7-19

We are continue our series titled "Jesus, in His Own Words", looking at the different words and phrases He used to describe Himself. This week, we look at a very common phrase we have heard, but may not have stopped to fully appreciate, that He is Our Good Shepherd.

To say He is our Shepherd is to recognize that we are vulnerable and in need of saving. Instead of trying to save ourselves or be our own shepherd, we can look to and rely on God who is capable, powerful, and personal. He offers us availability and closeness that makes Him a good shepherd. We know we are valued because He paid the ultimate price for us.

The Door - Jesus in His Own Words - John 10:7

In our series studying the words and phrases Jesus used to describe Himself, He uses simple imagery that a child could understand or someone from any part of society. This week, we look at what it means when Jesus described Himself as the Door. It is through Jesus and what He has done for us that we are able to enter in to His Kingdom. Jesus did not come to be a gatekeeper, but to bring people into the fold and in Him we find grace and security.
