Words like honey, voice like a salve

I drank in this podcast. Seneca’s “On the Shortness of Life” is gripping, and beautifully read here, with emotion and thoughtful breaks with soothing music to give you time to soak it in. After the first episode, I was thinking, “Oh no, what have I been doing with my life?” By the last, I was relieved to hear that studying and reading the philosophers is regarded as a valuable use of time, because I do spend a lot of time doing just that. The end, about connecting with each of these philosophers and relying on them as friends, and traveling back in time, touched my heart. I certainly plan to do just that, and it’s my hope that I may contribute something of value in this life... and if nothing else, live honorably and ethically. But it is my dream to one day converse with them in the afterlife, as Socrates himself dreamed of doing. I just hope that, when I do, I’ll have something to say that is worth hearing. Thank you for taking the time to read and share this incredibly valuable piece of literature. You made a difference to me, today, and brightened at least this corner of the world.
