    165. How To Make Your Life Make Sense

    Key Conversation Points:
It's possible to make sense of the weird parts of our stories.  No part of your past is insignificant.  God isn't just allowing randomness in our lives for no reason but he's making a pattern.  Do you see it in your life?   Christie and Lisa-Jo show us the courage and struggle of owning ALL the parts of our story. Anyone can be a gardener.  Trust Christie on this. We're reminded that our life is not random.  God knows where all the the seeds are planted.   Lisa-Jo read from the Chapter entitled "Seeds: Ready, Set, Grow" from Christie Purifoy's new book Garden Maker: Growing a Life of Beauty and Wonder with Flowers.  The book is available for purchase now.  It's a book about becoming!! Grab a few copies because you'll want to share it with friends!  Lisa-Jo has a whole story about Maplehurt on her IG stories saved here.  Christie reads from "Flowers of Importance" on page 137 in her new book "Garden Maker."  Canon 80D is the camera Christie uses for her photography.  Tag @christiepurifoy and share about this podcast.  Christie and Lisa-Jo will choose a listener to send a signed copy straight from Christie's home to the winner.  Podcast links:

    164. Garden Maker

    Key Conversation Points:
Have you killed a house plant before? It actually doesn't mean you are doomed for garden making. Who knew?! No green thumb? There's grace here. Christie Purifoy has written a new book named "Garden Maker: Growing a Life of Beauty and Wonder with Flowers." Thankfully, it's not just for those with a garden.  The great thing about Christie is that she's been the one intimidated about growing a garden.  She gently guides us through the process with a few seeds. Easy peasy!  Need proof that you need more flowers in your life? Christie and Lisa-Jo are showing the need that we have deep in our souls that only grows from the soil of a garden.  Click here to watch the trailer of "Garden Maker."  Podcast links:

    163. Encountering Goodness

    Key Conversation Points:
What does it mean to pursue goodness? Have we slighted it?  Let's stay rooted in our deep and worthy ordinary virtues even though they aren't on a typical list for new year's resolutions.  "I'd really like to be like Ted Lasso." Do you agree with Christie on this? Ted Lasso makes goodness and kindness appealing and powerful.  Tell us in the reviews what you think about Lasso. *viewer discretion advised for R rated moments* True goodness fights for you, inspires you and makes you braver and bolder.  Life isn't about us being good enough for God. Christie lets us know that beauty has been linked with truth and goodness in all different kinds of philosophies.  The writings that are mentioned: Sean of the South by Sean Dietrich and Phantastes by George McDonald.  Podcast links:

    162. Take a Load Off

    Key Conversation Points:
This year we have permission to know what happens isn't on us. Lying in bed in a hole is okay in this new year with the Lord. He doesn't need a clean pantry or tidy bedrooms to be present with you in the hole. Lisa-Jo said our body, day and new year is God's country. What does that mean?  Are you the King or Queen in your land?  Christie has a book coming out at the end of the month with another one due soon.  She still is calm in the middle of the hustle even though she has an insane workload right now. How does she do it? What does she say she needs more of? Do you agree?  This new Venite prayer app is more Scripture and prayers with no burden. Advice from an amazing garderner: Every year something will be a disaster but something else will be a marvel.  It is our 4th New Year together on this podcast! We need your comments and 5 stars to fuel our hearts as we keep going!

    161. Hope in Winter

Out of the Ordinary Winter Reflections:
"Making friends and family comfortable is an art." What do you want people to feel when they enter your home? It's okay if there's chaos, we're talking about the heart of your home...in the ordinary and in the crazy! Winter is either your season or it's not. It can linger on or we can find some ways to find the joy in the middle of the cold and bitter winds. There just might be hope that's coming in the next season. There just might be new wine that comes out of the grief. Lisa-Jo is reading from "And The Greatest of These" from The Jubilee, by John Blase Christie's is reading from The Christmas Chronicles by Nigel Slater. Podcast links:

    160. Finding the Face of God in the Storm

    160. Finding the Face of God in the Storm

Out of the Ordinary Winter Reflections:
Where's Jesus on the days when it seems He has fallen asleep in the storm?  Jesus was asleep on the boat because he wasn't afraid of the waves. Let's lean into our dear friendships when it gets hard instead of leaning out. Especially now.  Especially after this year.  Can you be "prayer in action" in this season for someone?  Jesus didn't just talk about rescuing, He did it.  Look for the face of God this week.  He's there in the ordinary moments and in the faces around you. Lisa-Jo is reading from "My Faith Leaks" from The Middle Matters by Lisa-Jo Baker.  Christie's is reading from "Writing a Sermon, December 23" by Mary F. C. Pratt found in Light Upon Light, compiled by Sarah Arthur.  Podcast links:

Friends from afar!

I love hearing the banter of Lisa Jo and Christie! Christie is married to my hubby’s and my ole college buddy, so I feel a connection already, but regardless Lisa Jo and Christie pull you in to their own space, welcoming you to a friendship from afar. I love their podcasts!

Goodness in the Land of the Living

Thank you ladies for yet again refreshing my soul. The last couple episodes of hard things being God’s country and today’s reminder of “beyond the borders you will find goodness- God’s goodness” and Ps. 27 at the end was just the what I needed for today. ❤️

Longing for more [of this podcast]

This is my favorite podcast of all time. Christie and Lisa Jo exude warmth and wisdom and deep-rooted joy. I love that they share their heartache with us and invite us into the things that have been hard and broken in their own lives - but always in a way that is ultimately full of meaning and hope rather than emptiness and despair. I feel less alone and braver after each episode, which is truly a gift that they give with the help of the Holy Spirit. Thank you so very much, and please keep doing what you are doing!
