Are Low Income Groups Being Forced Out of National Parks?

Are Low Income Groups Being Forced Out of National Parks?

On this week's podcast, Bob and co-host Kevin discuss an upcoming entry fee increase at Rocky Mountain National Park and also discuss the "Timed Reservation System" in use there and at other National Parks during certain times of the year. Does the high cost of entry to some National Parks and the need to reserve a time and date to visit, sometimes far in advance, prevent low income groups from visiting? Why isn't the National Park Service doing something to make visiting parks less expensive, instead of making them into playgrounds only for the well off? Also, we talk about how Colorado is lowering the cost for annual state park passes, and that city and county parks don't charge entry fees. This podcast sponsored by the realtors at Springs Homes. Managing Our Outdoor Recreation Expectations

On this week's podcast, Bob talks with Becky Leinweber, the Executive Director of the Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance. They discuss how public land managers are dealing with greatly increased visitor and usage numbers, and how other agencies, such as visitors bureaus, are helping visitors prepare for busier parks. Also, they mull over whether things will ever go back to "how they used to be", and how outdoor enthusiasts can better manage their own expectations and prepare for what is probably now the new normal. Life Lived Outdoors

Just stumbled across this great hiking podcast. While I live in Idaho, I learn so much practical information from hiking safety, using trail gear and apps, trail land management and even how to save money on a rental car. (Saved $300 bucks on a rental in Anchorage!) Appreciate all the effort that goes into making a podcast relevant and informative.
