    Lockdown Literature with Tim Abrahams

    Lockdown Literature with Tim Abrahams

Lockdown diaries became a literary fad in 2020, but few if any were memorable. What if the real literature of lockdown was written over a century ago? This is the hypothesis behind "The Machine Book of Weird," an anthology of fiction from the late 19th and early 20th century that explores isolation, domestic confinement, and the uncanniness of home. Publisher Tim Abrahams joins me to discuss this project, plus Freud, Mark Fisher, and more.

Great guests, insightful conversations

but I think this podcast would really benefit from some in real time and post-production editing. Love it, either way.

Exceptional

If there is some glimmer of hope for the internet or for the cybernetic society that we find ourselves intractably enmeshed in, that hope lies in the type of para-academic content that podcasts like Outsider Theory provide. Shullenberger and his guests offer concise, erudite, and illuminating conversations that implore the listener to consider what is truly at stake in contemporary society.

The De-Mystification Process

Do you like Continental Philosophy? Are you or have you ever been an academic outcast? Do you resent the professors you had as an undergrad who ‘had it easy’ when they went to grad school in the ‘60s and ‘70s when tuition was cheap and jobs were aplenty? Do you recoil at contemporary forms of fundamentalism marching beneath banners of ‘progress,’ ‘equity,’ ‘free the child sex slaves before they’re cooked and eaten,’ and the like? Are the prevalence in the society of nihilism and ressentiment issues you wake up in the morning involuntarily worrying about? If you answered ‘YES!’ to any of these questions, then this Outsider Theory podcast may be the non-pharmaceutical key to your shackles of anxiety, hopelessness, and despair that you’ve been groping around on the sidewalk in the dark on your hands and knees searching for! Kudos Mr. Shullenberger. Kudos.
