Page 799: The Red String Diaries
Kvothe gears up for a fight, then goes to see Vashet. We talk about Adem attitudes, Vashet's intentions, infer some things about Vashet's visitors, and Jeremy makes me spend an inordinate amount of time bleeping all his F-Bombs. Apologies for the audio quality in this week's episodes; we're experimenting with new setups.

Kvothe bares his musical soul. We talk about how Kvothe is better able to communicate without words, the songs he chooses to play for Vashet, and the most important tool for self-knowledge yet devised by humankind.

Page 797: Hold Down For What!
Kvothe lures Vashet out of her home and into the darkness. We ponder if Vashet knows Kvothe is capable of fell sorcery, Kvothe showing he knows how to listen, and how this page sets up mystery.

Page 796: Screw It!
Kvothe ponders his next move and comes to a dramatic decision. We talk about how this scene might be faking out the reader - and how it might not. We discuss the structural role this scene would occupy in a more traditional story and how Rothfuss subverts our expectations. We also talk about how Kvothe’s reaction in this scenario is justifiable!

Page 795: Jordana and the Room Full of Human Skin
Kvothe goes to apologize to Vashet, but she has something else in mind. We talk about how much we can learn from Vashet’s interpretation of Kvothe, and what in Kvothe is nature versus nurture. We ponder - can one trust an apology that comes from fear? And we debate the nature of a fence.

It’s like having friends who love king killer as much as you do
I found this pod through king killer twitter during the pandemic.
Started with wise man’s fear, and now am working through the name of the wind. Love this show and have been so grateful for the hours of entertainment.
Just started
Just binge listened to page 134 for the last week. Very happy so far. Love the dedication. So glad they’re already to book 2 so I can continue to listen nonstop for months. Hopefully book 3 is out before they are done.
Comfort in Ritual
I look forward to listening daily. Everything else in quarantine feels unsettled, but I know when I open my podcast library there will be a new episode to enjoy, and I find comfort in that ritual. NOTW and TWMF are such well-written books, and the symbolism and character development are worthy of many, many conversations. Thank you for your dedication to close reading of literature, and helping listeners feel connected to the three of you and to the text.
