State of Pikes Peak Region Sustainability Peak Environment

How are Pikes Peak Region sustainability efforts doing? What are the challenges, achievements, strengths, weaknesses, progress and setbacks? This episode provides a valuable history of efforts to promote sustainable policy and practice in Colorado Springs, and a snapshot of where we are today. It’s all explored in this community dialogue recorded at the June 17 Sustainability in Progress meeting of the Peak Alliance for a Sustainable Future.
Peak Alliance Chair Mary Barber shares most of the story, and moderates the ensuing conversation. Barber has long been a community sustainability leader. She was sustainability manager at Fort Carson when the base first developed the Fort Carson Sustainability Plan. Mary reviews the ten goals in the Pikes Peak region’s sustainability plan (link below) and gives us a status report on each. The conversation brings light to those who have been doing valuable work in the Colorado Springs community and beyond. The group discussion explores ways to promote more collaboration, raise public awareness and inspire participation.

Looking to Our Future – Pikes Peak Region 2030 sustainability plan
This presentation was made at the monthly Sustainability in Progress (SIP) event on June 17, 2019. Sustainability in Progress is a monthly program of the Peak Alliance for a Sustainable Future. Join us (free) the third Wednesday of every month 7:30-9:00 a.m. in the Wildcat Room at the Ivywild School. Coffee and pastries are provided.

Sustain-a-Fest
All age groups are welcome to join in the fun! Come walk the park and experience booths, live music from Tejon Street Corner Thieves and more, local food trucks, and family-friendly activities such as crafts, face painting, mobile cave (CaveSim), bouncy house, and more! Hosted by the Colorado Springs Office of Innovation and Sustainability.
August 2-4, 2019
People's Tiny House Festival
5:30 to 7:30 pmThe event celebrates all facets of simple living including tiny houses, converted vans, container homes, and converted school buses. The event is family-friendly and dog-friendly.
