TOXIC FRIENDSHIPS: Red Flags in Friendships - Manipulation, Jealousy, Exclusion, Isolation & Emotional Silencing ft. Growing up as a Private School Girl

In this episode the Suddenly Twenties girls bring you a lengthy discussion on toxic friendships, addressing the areas of friendships we forget to consider. We brought on two guests to discuss their experiences with toxic friendships, how they identify red flags and toxicity in friendships, what steps they took to get out of or distance themselves from unhealthy people and what their advice would be to their younger selves / young girls still stuck in these unhealthy relationships. We then touch on the unhealthy culture that can be created in private schools such as those in Canberra. We briefly mention the long term competitiveness, pressure and expectations that many girls feel leaving highschool and how difficult it can be to break away from the pathway that was paved for us not by us.

Again, Sharna and I reiterate our main points on toxic friendships that:
1) An unhealthy friendship is often a two sided miss-match in personalilities and expectations
2) No individual is toxic, but rather the dynamic and culture which stems from one-on-one friendships or groups of girls

Listen to this episode from two lenses, 1) assessing your friendships and what they provide you / if they align with your values,  and 2) with self-reflection on how you treat those around you. No person is perfect and no friendship is perfect, but ensure you do what is best for you xx
