Running the Camino de Santiago with Kevin Moore

Kevin Moore is an average guy who wanted to do something big.  With a passion for self-discovery and a 100 mile DNF on his back, he booked a flight and set off to run the iconic 500 mile Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage route across the top of Spain that covers the Pyrenees mountain range and hundreds of miles of (hot and exposed!) farmland.

How did he plan the trip? What did he run with? Who did he run with? Where did he sleep? How did his body hold up? How about his mind? The Camino de Santiago is a long route with many opportunities for failure, right?

All of these questions are answered in this tale about self-discovery, perseverance, and real ultra grit.  We discuss:

* The outer limits of motivation. What makes a runner keep going?

* Pain thresholds and perseverance.  With blisters and shin splints, what can we do to make it to the next day?

* Adaptation. If there’s not a bed available and there’s only a hard marble floor, what do you do?

* How does the mind deal with the juxtaposition of incredible physical pain while the mind is basking in visible beauty?

“As runners that’s what we’re challenged with…we usually never reach a point where we can’t take one step more. We reach a point where we choose not to go any further because we stop believing that it’s possible.”

–Kevin Moore, July 2016
