Larisa Dannis | Back to Her Roots Ultrarunnerpodcast.com

    • Running

Larisa Dannis joined us in 2014 to discuss her mountain training in Vermont and subsequent move to Northern California.  During that year, she finished 2nd at Western, ran a 5:59 fifty miler, and racked up wins across the country only to break her fibula at 100k championships in Qatar.

So what happened? What caused the injury, and how did she process it all?  How had the move affected her emotionally, and did it have any bearing on her injury? Larisa opens up about her unabating desire to return to Western, how she’s worked hard to establish balance in life, and we get into the nitty gritty of what helped propel her to a recent win at Javelina Jundred.

Episode Notes

Here’s our original interview with Larisa from 2014. And here’s another one from right before Western.

Here’s the article by John Trent in ultrarunning magazine.

Here’s her report on Javelina with some great lessons you can use on your next run.

Here’s the Polar D800 that Larisa uses for HRM training.

Larisa talked about two FKT’s she’s interested in. Here’s the Hut Traverse (she had the FKT and wants it back!), and here’s more on the Pemi Loop.

Outro music by AJ LeGrand

Looking for a tough point to point 100k that ends at a lake with a brewery, local food, and a complimentary masseuse? Be sure to check out the Twisted Branch Trail Race in the Finger Lakes of Upstate New York. Run on gnarly singletrack along the FKT, this feels more like a 100 miler and is just as fun. Registration opens on Black Friday, so get ready to sign up!
