Katie and Dominic Grossman | Expectations, Reality, and the Future Ultrarunnerpodcast.com

    • Running

Katie Grossman got pregnant earlier this year and fully expected to stay in perfect shape, have a flawless pregnancy, bounce back, and continue to crush the trails like she has for years.  She documented much of her journey in some honest and poignant essays for her TrailSisters column.

Katie and Lindy Grossman

Like many things in life, expectations and reality didn’t line up and Katie’s been unable to return to running as quickly as she wanted due to some hip problems and overall new parenting duties. How’s she doing now and when will she return to the podium? Katie’s honest and real about expectations.

How has Dominic dealt with it? He’s supported Katie, felt guilty for running when she can’t, watched Lindy when Katie works out, and DNFed races because he missed his little girl. As any parent knows, the range of new parent emotions is unlike any other power in the universe.

So what are there plans for the future? Lotteries, lotteries, lotteries! Katie and Dom Grossman are both anxiously awaiting the results from early December’s draws that will dictate their schedule next year…schedules that hopefully include a trip to Silverton in July.

Katie and Dom Grossman Episode Notes

Here’s Katie’s column for Trail Sisters. Mandatory reading for anyone (friends, husbands, etc) going through pregnancy.

Here’s Dom’s interview from 2016 where he discussed overtraining syndrome.

I referenced the interview Sarah and I had with Michele Yates where she discussed her hip issues and surgeries. Here’s that interview.

Broken Arrow is a three day, European style inspired race festival in Lake Tahoe’s north shore that features a VK, 10k, bands, movies, a 26k and the 52k SkyRace. Top talent, superb organization, blissful alpenhorn music, and an ideal backdrop make this a race you don’t want to miss.

Here’s my story about Sunny’s run at Broken Arrow last year.
