Conor Lewis on Why to Persevere Despite Failing Constantly

Hello Pluckies! I'm sure you're used to stories of people struggling and facing failures to eventually succeed. I mean we certainly have a bunch of them on Plucking Up as well - failing or 'plucking up' is important for our growth.

But my guest today, Conor Lewis, tells us why it's important even though you may not find the success you hoped.

Conor was the founder of one of the biggest kickstarters ever with a children's toy company. But through the hurdles and deep setbacks he faced, Conor remained relentless and hopeful.

Conor tells us what he learned through that journey - this one is a tear-jerker and truly inspirational one! Fun fact - Conor is also the husband of one of my dear friends.

Replay Episode: Matthew McConaughey on How Responsibility Breeds True Freedom

Hey Pluckies! I'm back with one of my favorite episodes from the past.

Let's revisit the time I sat down with the superstar, Matthew McConaughey! Yes, I still can't believe it!

In this amazing conversation, the Academy Award-winner talks about parenting, from how he was raised to how he’s raising his own children and his learning journey as an actor, how we went from complacency and shame to getting roles of a lifetime.

There’s a lot of uniquely introspective wisdom about failure, guilt, and embarrassment that we talk about, as well as visceral experiences Matthew shared in our conversation!

Replay Episode: Janice Bryant Howroyd on Being at the Forefront of Change

Check out this episode very close to my heart, as we go down memory lane!

Janice Bryant Howroyd is the founder and CEO of The ActOne Group, an award-winning company in the human resources industry. The ActOne Group is a multi-billion dollar business she started with just about $1500 in savings. But Janice is more than an incredible businesswoman with tons of accolades and accomplishments under her belt. Janice has lived a phenomenal life that, while filled with challenges, can inspire anyone in pursuit of changing the course of their own history. In this episode, she talks to me about living in a Bible-based community in the Deep South and the supportive environment Janice’s parents created for her, as well as 10 other siblings. We also dive deep into her experience of being the ONLY student of color to integrate at an white school in 11th grade — and why she calls it the worst year of her life.

Real encouragement

Sometimes, leadership podcasts can come off as aspirational but unrealistic. Liz knows her stuff and is a successful businesswoman and leader, but she has mastered the art of still being a real person you feel like you could actually be friends with. Her genuine enthusiasm and curiosity comes across in every episode, and I always come away feeling hopeful and also entertained (did I mention she’s so funny?!) The guests are fantastic and she has a way of helping us relate to the real humans behind the famous names. Listen in and be encouraged!
