    In episode 57 the topic is working “in” or “on” your business, as well as developing your story so you may attract the right people for you into your online business.

    I love working “in” my business every day. This includes writing, marketing, creating, learning, and mentoring. But there are times when it is best for me to step away. This clears my mind and allows me to grow personally. We must always remember that we are in the process of becoming the person we wish to be. The ways I work “on” my business include…



    * Reading books not having to do with my business. Right now I’m reading the revised and updated version of The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss, and Long-Term Health by T. Colin Campbell and Thomas M. Campbell II, as well as Malcolm Gladwell’s latest, The Bomber Mafia: A Dream, a Temptation, and the Longest Night of the Second World War. Reading in this way allows me to expand my mind and thinking so that I can see beyond the confines of marketing and other topics I know very well.

    * Creative writing. I think of this as writing for pleasure. My writing practice has expanded significantly over the years, and in July of 2019 I started a third blog called Monday Morning Mellow in order to have a home on the internet in which to share these stories.

    * Getting away from familiar surroundings. I began this early on in my entrepreneurial journey by going to a hotel located about an hour from my home for an overnight stay. This hotel was at the beach in Ventura, California and gave me a new perspective on my life and my business that became priceless to me over time.

    * Unplugging completely. This was a tough one for me to embrace, but once I did I was able to see dramatic results in my outlook on life, level of creativity, and how I was able to navigate the waters of life and business. I highly recommend you do this for 24 hours each week for best results.

    * Talking to people from other walks of life. I talk to strangers and this had made the difference in how I am able to interact with others and improve my life’s progress.

    * Do you have obligations to others in your home, or outside of your home that will affect what you do each morning when you awake?

    * What tasks and activities are best done in the morning, for your schedule, personality, and lifestyle?

    * What can you do each morning that will make the remainder of your day happier and more productive?

    In episode 56 I discuss something called “disruption marketing.” This is similar to your USP, or unique selling proposition or unique selling position. What makes disruption marketing different and unique is that it helps your prospects to achieve greater success than they could otherwise.

    What makes you different from everyone else in your niche? That was the million dollar question the year I got started online. Like many new online entrepreneurs, we feel like we have nothing new and unique to share, but that simply isn’t true. I’ll be discussing this topic on my podcast later today.

    The truth is that no one else could possibly be doing what we do because we are all unique human beings. Even if we attempt to be like someone else, it won’t work. Using something known as “disruption marketing,” your goal is to become known for something you are doing. I initially achieved this by proclaiming that you did NOT need a list of 10K or more to get to 6 figures a year, because I had done it with a list of 651 names! You may have been one of those people on my list at that time.



    * This is what I’m recommending for you to make sure you can disrupt your market in an awesome way:

    Observe your own behavior and results. What are you doing differently from others? This could be around your content creation, product and course creation or delivery, social media updates, or something else altogether.

    * Change up your routine. I typically send out my email message between 9:30 and 10am ET each day. What if I sent it an hour or two later, or earlier – would my community pay attention and take some type of action?

    * Write and speak about what you’re doing to grow your business so that anyone who wants to can read or listen to your ideas. I promise many more great ideas will come if you do this.

    * Think of yourself as a disruptor – this alone will begin to make a difference in your results.

    The topic of episode 55 is membership sites. Do you have a membership site? Did you know that it’s never been easier to set up and run an online membership site to build your business? I explain why starting with a free model may be the most effective method for you, and how you can grow over time with a paid site.

    When I first came online in 2006, the software necessary to set up a membership site was expensive, clunky, and required a tech person to make changes and updates on a regular basis. At that time I believed that having my own membership site would not be possible.

    Within a year I had joined a Mastermind that included two brilliant young men. You may recognize one or both of their names – Stu McLaren and Tracy Childers. They had also been frustrated with the current situation around building membership sites and decided to do something about it. The result was Wishlist Member, their WordPress plugin that made it simple, easy, and inexpensive to set up membership sites. Over that summer I watched as their new business took off around the world, and I started my very first membership Site!

    The topic of episode 54 is using video and audio to enhance your marketing and get your message out to the world. I believe this can be an excellent method for you to build your business quickly, and with the right prospects and clients for your niche and message. I’ve now taken on a mentor for my video creation and marketing and finding it to be most helpful as I experiment with this medium and strategy.

    This podcast. Praestabilis: Excellence in Marketing is an example of how to use audio to expand your reach and connect with more prospects, clients, and colleagues. I began back in 2006 with simple audio recordings that I created and then shared with my list. I graduated to podcasting soon after, and this is my third long running podcast series throughout the years

    My YouTube Channel is the venue for most of the videos I’ve created over more than a decade. You may also want to consider Vimeo or other platforms that allow you to upload, edit, and share the videos you will create. Keep them short – under five minutes – for best results, as none of us has the time or the attention span to watch for much longer when it comes to marketing videos. Also, I try to teach something in every audio and video I create.

    Praestabilis: Excelllence in Marketing

    Welcome to Episode 53 of Praestabilis: Excellence in Marketing



    “How do you define yourself?” is the topic of episode 53. I was reading an article about the “C Generation.” This is how young people are being labeled, based on how they define themselves during the pandemic and beyond. Are you allowing your experiences and circumstances define you in a way that will affect your online business?

    We tend to be defined by a range of factors including demographics, attitudes, historical events like wars or other conflicts, popular culture, political beliefs, and prevailing consensus among researchers. As a result, the lines that define the generations are useful tools for analysis, but they should be thought of as guidelines, rather than hard-and-fast distinctions. I wrote about generational values in my book, Kids and Money: Teaching Financial Responsibility and Values to Children and find this topic to be relevant in business as well.

    Personally, I have defined myself by experiences and situations I’ve been in over the years. This includes going through Hurricane Andrew in Miami, being diagnosed with cancer for the first time at age 37, and then returning to California in time to experience the Northridge Earthquake, all during the span of less than six months from August of 1992 until January of 1993.

    As a new online entrepreneur in 2006, I defined myself initially as being too old, too educated, too inexperienced, not well connected enough, not smart enough, and more. Once I fought through the limitations I was placing on myself I was able to succeed and build a lucrative and highly profitable business on the internet.

    How are you defining yourself? How is this impacting your business? We all define and label ourselves with every word we utter and step we take. Defining yourself involves the idea of knowing who you are, what you stand for, what your identity is, what rules you stand by, and more. But that is simply based on the perception we have of who we are, and is not necessarily based on facts or reality. There are individuals and organizations who thrive on defining us and grouping us into neat little categories and boxes within those categories. Defining group of people isn’t simple. The names we use to talk about groups of people born in any given period can change over time. Sometimes this is because what seemed to be a defining event later turns out to be less influential than other forces at play, sometimes because a different term gains momentum and sticks.

    The precept that “relationships are everything” is the topic for Episode 52. Building relationships regularly will make a difference in your life and business. This is what I shared with my community earlier today…

    I had the most wonderful call with Niranjan Pradham this morning. You may be familiar with his gorgeous designs and I have purchased some of them as well. Niranjan reached out to me a few days ago and after we wrote back and forth for a few minutes it turned out we had people and interests in common. Now we’re planning to launch something exciting together in the near future.

    The reason I’m sharing this story with you because I want to emphasize the importance of building relationships online. Even though I’m an introvert, I work on this skill every day. And this morning was a reminder to me to reach out to people that I don’t think I have anything in common with, because that is seldom true. Niranjan reached out to me because my name had come up in something he was reading. Now I’m on a quest to reach out to more people I don’t know much about to see what is possible.

    Are you making the effort to connect with people every single day? This is the fastest, most effective, and enjoyable way to build a lucrative business that will provide you with the lifestyle you want and deserve.

    It’s time to get out of your comfort zone, once and for all and on a regular basis. Once you stretch your mind beyond where it’s at right now, you’ll never go back to what you did previously. This is the quote that comes to mind when I think about this idea – “Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.” ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes.

    Think of your life and business as a way to share your personal feelings, thoughts, and beliefs with the world. I first learned about this as a concept from the people who were in my first Rotary Club when I joined in 2006. They each had something they felt strongly about and incorporated it into their business. The psychotherapist was an animal lover and had photos of rescued animals in her office. That would start the conversation with her clients and many of them got involved. The man who owned a car dealership had sons who were active in local theatre productions and that became a way to connect with prospects and customers. What do you care deeply about that can be a topic to discuss to set yourself apart from others in your niche or field?

Succinct Tips & Strategies

All of us value our time and so many podcasts are full of fluff and banter and take a while to get to the point of their message of the day. Connie doesn’t waste your time. In under 30 minutes or less you get actionable nuggets to use in your business in an easy, well explained, friendly way.

The name Praestabilis may be hard to spell but rolls off the tongue in a nice way and is memorable.
