Prompt Queens is songwriting/comedy podcast. Every episode we write to a new prompt, play our songs, discuss songwriting and the creative process, and invite you to play along at home. Hosted by Emily Dunbar & Hope Dunbar.
Do you have an epic timeless tale of revenge or love or falling off a cliff in a long dress? Me neither. But the Decemberists do, so fear not. We tackle this kickass band and either do them a service or a disservice with our attempts. But ya know what? WE had a great time doing it. Write those songs, humans! The world needs your feelings and stuff.
The Edit Episode
The Edit Episode has Hope and Emily revisiting old songs from the podcast and taking a stab at editing. Hope chose her song from the "Tents" episode and Emily chose her song from the "Trains" episode. Today you can listen in and here the old version, the new version and talk about what it's like reworking old work. It's the last episode of 2022 and next year starts a whole new chapter in Prompt Queens! Thanks for listening and we hope you bring your creativity with you into the new year!
Holiday songs with Emily and Hope
"Please put a penny in the poor Prompt's hat." It is holiday season, the bells are ringing and the prompts are flowing red and green and tinsel-ly in the moonlight everybody. Hope and Emily try their hand at some holiday cheer using 1-4-5 chords as always. And, in the spirit of the season, THANK YOU to our listeners and friends for being so awesome and hanging out with us from Prompt to Prompt.
The girls are back. We knew they would be and they've written some sweet sweet sing along tunes for you and your's.
Songs without rhyme
Who says a song needs to rhyme? Not us! We do what we want. And, on this episode, we chose not to rhyme. Do we love that choice? Yeah sure. Learning and growing and what not. To reach levels of non-rhyming songs such as Paul Simon's America, Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner," REM's "Sidewinder Sleeps." We love those songs and we think you're great.
And we're in crowns and sashes and dreaming of world peace, everyone. Thank you, as always, for listening!
Peak into the songwriting process
I’m getting to this podcast late in the game but who cares? I’m excited to catch them all and respond to some of their prompts— “If we can do it, anyone can do it” as they say. It’s fun to get a peak into how these two work and rework their songs. And their sisters in law friendship is very sweet and supportive.
The BEST songwriting podcast out there!
I love this podcast! Hope and Emily are so talented and motivational. These lovely ladies make song writing sound easy and fun—and it is! They encourage folks to send their own work in with a change to have it played on the show. So awesome. Thanks Dunbars for doin’ watcha do, and encourage listeners to share their creations too!
PROMPT-ly inspires you to be more creative - and LOLs galore!
I am a such a fan of this podcast! I'm always on the search for great podcasts on creativity/art/creative process and this is one is in a league of it's own! Hope and Emily have a grounded, down to Earth vibe mixed with an uber inspiring songwriting chops. The podcast is educational (I love being a fly on the wall with this two Prompt Queens as the write and compose on the fly!) and guaranteed they also always make me laugh (like, out loud, at the gym, on the treadmill with my headphones on!) Even if you aren't a musician or songwriter, I think any lover of music or any other creative who listens to this podcast will agree - it's a gem!
