    Reacting to the Mbappé Bombshell

    Reacting to the Mbappé Bombshell

This past week, Paris Saint-Germain received news that they have been waiting months for and that is Nuno Mendes has been officially removed from the medical report. Oh, and we received an update on the Kylian Mbappé saga.
On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Ethan from PSG Fan Club Boise to discuss a hectic week in which we learned that Mbappé will reportedly leave the club this summer. We also break down two positive results for PSG against Real Sociedad and FC Nantes.
Starting chronologically, we begin with the timing of Mbappé's communication with PSG that he will not return to the club once his contract expires. According to reports, Mbappé informed the club a day before PSG hosted Real Sociedad in the UEFA Champions League. Did the club force him to make a decision before the knockout stage, or did Mbappé want to do PSG a favor by letting them know as early as possible so they can begin planning for his departure?
Next, we dive into PSG's 2-0 win over Real Sociedad at the Parc des Princes. It was a tale of two halves where PSG looked slow and unable to keep possession in the first half but came out in the second and scored twice to take hold of the tie. We break down Mbappé's performance and Bradley Barcola's goal and look ahead to the return leg and what PSG's strategy should be.
Less than 24 hours after the win, Fabrizio Romano and several other top journalists reported that Mbappé will leave the club this summer as a free agent. We discuss who may have leaked that information to the media, the challenges Mbappé will face at Real Madrid, and who PSG may sign this summer to strengthen the squad.
The show concludes with a discussion about PSG's 2-0 win over Nantes, including Luis Enrique's decision to bench Mbappé to start the match.

No Mbappé, No Problem Against Lille

No Mbappé, No Problem Against Lille

It would have been easy for Paris Saint-Germain to put forth a lackluster effort against Lille OSC on Saturday, with the UEFA Champions League knockout stage kicking off next week. Instead, Luis Enrique's squad showed resilience and is now full of confidence for the upcoming match against Real Sociedad.
On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Ligue1.com and PSGTalk.com writer Eddie Razo and Ethan from PSG Fan Club Boise. We discuss the come-from-behind win over Lille, preview the match against Real Sociedad, discuss Kylian Mbappé's future, and so much more.
Up first, we share what we liked and didn't like from PSG's 3-1 win over Lille at the Parc des Princes with Mbappé left on the bench to rest his injured ankle. The visitors struck first thanks to some shaky defending from Les Parisiens, but Gonçalo Ramos answered with a goal of his own just four minutes later in the first half. PSG went into the half up a goal thanks to an own-goal from Alexsandro and tacked on one late in the second half when Randal Kolo Muani capped off a brilliant run from Bradley Barcola. We highlight Ousmane Dembélé's emergence and Manuel Ugarte's return to form.
We then transition to the match on February 14, against Real Sociedad in the Round of 16 of the Champions League. We discuss the ideal starting lineup and rate our confidence level in the squad currently. We also give our prediction for the first leg of the tie.
Moving off the pitch, we break down the media's coverage of the ongoing Mbappé saga. It was recently reported that he has agreed to join Real Madrid in the summer, but it's never been clearer why the Paris native should stay in the French capital. We discuss the mixed messages from the media and when Mbappé may announce his decision.
We wrap up the show with a discussion about the Parc des Princes, which may not be the home of PSG in the near future, and the news that blue cards could soon be part of the game we all love.

    Crunching the Numbers

    Crunching the Numbers

Paris Saint-Germain threw away a two-goal lead at home last Sunday, but they're still alive in all competitions, and financially, they've never been stronger.
On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Ethan from PSG Fan Club Boise to discuss PSG's draw against Stade Brestois 29, a newly released financial report on the club, and the latest transfer news.
Up first, we discuss the match against Brest, where PSG went up 2-0 in the first half thanks to goals from Marco Asensio and Randal Kolo Muani but let that lead slip in the second. We share what we liked and didn't like from the match and whether Luis Enrique has the squad peaking at the right time in the season.
Next, we pivot to the Deloitte Money League report, which outlines the financial health of football clubs by looking at everything from sponsorships to gameday revenue. Ethan walks us through the findings and outlines what the report says about Paris Saint-Germain.
We conclude the show with an update on the latest transfers, including Cher Ndour going on loan and Gabriel Moscardo's transfer being finalized. We also share our thoughts on whether Hugo Ekitiké will be transferred in January and which Liverpool FC players could be available this summer, with Jürgen Klopp announcing that he is stepping down at the end of the season.

    The Rise of Bradley Barcola

    The Rise of Bradley Barcola

New year, and apparently, a renewed Paris Saint-Germain, who haven't lost since the calendar turned to 2024, chalked up another victory at RC Lens on Sunday to increase their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Marc Damon to discuss PSG's 2-0 victory over Lens, the latest reports regarding Kylian Mbappé's future, the January transfer window, and we answer a few questions from listeners.
Up first, we discuss what we liked, didn't like, and what stood out in PSG's win over Lens. From Bradley Barcola's goal and overall performance to Luis Enrique's lineup decisions to Gianluigi Donnarumma's penalty save, we cover it all.
After the recap, we jump into a bit of drama involving Mbappé. A recent report indicated that the Frenchman has already made the decision to join Real Madrid in the summer despite Mbappé stating no decision has been made. We share our thoughts on this situation as well as the other report about Jordan Brand breaking up with PSG.
Next, we discuss the January transfer window, where no major signings seem likely for PSG, but Nordi Mukiele could be on his way to FC Bayern Munich. Is this a good decision for PSG, or do they need to find a defensive replacement before the end of the month?
We wrap up the show by answering listener questions about Carlos Soler and Fabián Ruiz, Danilo Pereira, and more.

    The Mid-Season Review Show

    The Mid-Season Review Show

The winter break is upon us, and before Paris Saint-Germain kicks off the new year, we step back to reflect on an eventful first half of the season.
On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Ethan from PSG Fan Club Boise to recap PSG's Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League performance so far, look ahead to the tie against Real Sociedad, react to the Super League news, and discuss potential broadcasters for Ligue 1 in the United States.
First, we talk about Ligue 1, where PSG sits in first place ahead of OGC Nice and AS Monaco. Luis Enrique earns high grades for navigating PSG to impressive wins at Stade Rennais and at home against Olympique de Marseille. We also name our most valuable players of the season so far and call out what has impressed us the most about the French top flight.
Next, we discuss the Champions League Round of 16, where PSG will face Real Sociedad. We share our initial reaction to the draw and what PSG must do between now and February 14, to prepare to face an impressive up-and-coming squad. We also share the ties we're most looking forward to watching.
News of the Super League 2.0 broke right before recording, so we react to that news and why most of the major clubs are against a new European tournament.
Lastly, we discuss a recent interview by World Soccer Talk with Chief Executive Ben Morel. In the article, he mentions the league is looking for a new broadcast partner in the United States, and we share which providers we would like to see, plus how Ligue 1 can continue to grow in the U.S.

Paris Saint-Germain Survives the 'Group of Death'

Paris Saint-Germain Survives the 'Group of Death'

It was a tumultuous Wednesday evening for Paris Saint-Germain supporters as the club battled Borussia Dortmund with a place in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League on the line. Thankfully, Christmas came early, and Les Parisiens narrowly scraped by with a draw.
On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Jonathan Johnson from CBS Sports to talk all about the match against Dortmund. We discuss the overall performance of the club, missed opportunities, and standout performances and look ahead to the next round.
Up first, Johnson shares his overall thoughts on the performance from PSG, including the countless missed scoring chances Luis Enrique's side created. On the other end of the pitch, Gianluigi Donnarumma had a fantastic performance, and we talked about his potential future with the club.
Warren Zaïre-Emery put in a Man of the Match performance and scored PSG's only goal. We talk about his ability to come back from injury and lead PSG against Dortmund and whether he could be the captain of the club next season.
We wrap up the conversation about the match by discussing PSG's mentality after going a goal down and whether Luis Enrique should have instructed his side to go for the win instead of playing defensively late in the match.
Then, we switch gears to the January transfer window. We discuss potential transfer targets and which young players could go out on loan.

Right Podcast, Right Time

As a new PSG fan from the US I started listening to the guys about two weeks before the Messi situation blew up. I wanted to learn as much as I could about the club before the season started and I couldn’t be happier. Great guests and good sense humor. I’m a fan for life. Excited for my first season with this group!
