Rising from The Ashes After Life Changing Events + Discovering Your True Purpose, with Meg James

Rising from The Ashes After Life Changing Events + Discovering Your True Purpose, with Meg James

In today’s episode, I’m thrilled to introduce you to Meg James - a Trauma Recovery Coach and Meditation Teacher who helps people with traumatic histories break free from survival mode and rise from the ashes like never before. As one of the leading teachers on the Insight Timer and Kic (Keep it Cleaner) apps, Meg’s guided meditations have helped over 4 million meditators worldwide.

I came across Meg’s incredible work several years ago and have been super inspired by how she has evolved her business. I was keen to chat to Meg about her career journey and how she was able to land in a deep place of purpose and fulfilment in her work.

In this episode, we talk about:

+ How Meg, during her high school years, was being pushed towards career directions that were misaligned with her true nature and resulted in her falling into a career that wasn’t right for her.

+ Meg’s early career in Media and Advertising and following the path that was expected of her. While it seemed like a sensible thing to do and was financially viable - it ultimately turned out to be the most misery-inducing experience of her entire life.

+ The nagging feelings Meg experienced during her corporate career, that something was off. She felt like she didn’t belong and was like a black sheep of her peers - spending her spare time doing yoga and attending retreats vs all of her peers who were going to parties and out drinking. These misaligned values became increasingly apparent and became the catalyst for change.

+ Meg’s upbringing; how she was introduced to meditation and yoga at such a young age and played a pivotal role in shaping her career; helping her to gain clarity and making aligned decisions that felt true to her.

+ The internal discomfort and tug of war Meg felt when it was clear she was on the wrong path; and how Meg’s practices became an anchor and helped her shape the next chapter of her career.

+ The turning point on Meg’s career change journey and the exact moment she knew it was time to leave her corporate career and pursue her passion for mindfulness and meditation.

+ The serendipitous opportunities that began to arise once she made the decision and began taking steps towards defining her new career path.

+ How Meg handled the uncertainty of her new path and allowed herself the time and space to experiment and find her flow.

+ The unexpected life changing events that led to the next evolution of Meg’s career, and ultimately led to uncovering her greatest purpose.

+ The magic that happens when you step out of thinking and into feeling vs planning and strategizing, and allowing things to flow.

+ The simple practices Meg uses to tune into her inner compass and make heart led decisions.

From Law to Entrepreneurship: Ann Thai's Unexpected Career Change Journey

From Law to Entrepreneurship: Ann Thai's Unexpected Career Change Journey

Today, I’m joined on the podcast with Ann Thai, the founder of Amaia Lashes and About Your Marketing to chat all about her career transition from Lawyer to Entrepreneur.

When I discovered that Ann had left behind a lucrative law career to start her business, I was immediately intrigued.

It takes considerable courage to make such a massive change, especially after investing so much time and energy into becoming a lawyer, so, I wanted to bring Ann on the podcast to learn more about her journey and how she arrived at this pivotal decision in her career.

It turns out, leaving law was one of the best decisions that Ann has ever made.

In this episode we talk about:

The family pressures that led to Ann pursuing her career in law after school and going down a path that was wildly out of alignment with her skills, passions and personality.
Why, despite the signs she was out of alignment, Ann kept pushing forward with this path and that ultimately led to extreme burnout.
How the skills Ann gained through her side hustles and ‘experiments’ fast tracked her success with Amia Lashes, generating $1m in revenue in the first year.
Why, despite the money she was making, Ann was miserable in her business.
The childhood wounds and limiting beliefs that Ann had to confront so she could move forward and reconnect with her joy and find her purpose.

    And so much more!

The Non-Linear Career Transition from Corporate Dropout to Professional Photographer with Hayley Richardson

Welcome to episode three of Pursuit of Purpose!
I’m thrilled to introduce Hayley Richardson, the founder and photographer behind Intimately You Boudoir, based on the northern beaches of Sydney, where she opens up on her non-linear career transition from corporate dropout to becoming a professional photographer, opening her own boudoir photography studio.
I’ve been following Hayley’s journey for many years and had the pleasure of collaborating with Hayley for a personal brand photoshoot on one of my trips back home to Sydney and absolutely adore her incredible work.
Since that time, Hayley’s business has shifted dramatically where she is now solely focused on empowering women to reclaim themselves through her work as a boudoir photographer; and with that she has arrived at a place of complete alignment with her work and purpose in the world.
In this episode we talk about:
The nonlinear journey that ultimately led Hayley to her finding her purpose and starting her photography business, nine years into her career.
Hayley’s creative heart that she recognized as always been present during her school years, which led her to studying a degree in visual communication following high school.
How Hayley recognized that photography had always been a passion, but her lack of technical skills held her back from initially pursuing this path after high school.
The intuitive nudge that led Hayley to changing degrees and pursuing a business degree instead, and ultimately landing a job in a large corporate following university.
The signs that Hayley was misaligned in her corporate job and how she recognized she was being called to do something greater in her career that she felt more connected to.
Hayley’s first foray into business, working as a Health Coach; the obvious signs this wasn’t the right path for her to continue pursuing and how this led to the next evolution of her business.
Hayley’s chance encounter with a camera while on holiday and how this led to her next chapter in business.
The early signs that Hayley had found her ‘thing’ in photography and how all of her past experience helped to shape her journey and meant she was able to flow seamlessly into this chapter of her business.
The catalyst for change in Hayley’s photography business that led to a pivot and greater alignment with her purpose.
The two key ingredients Hayley believes have been crucial to her success in business.
Why Hayley pressed pause in her business when she moved overseas and how she was able to reinvent herself in a different country.
The crossroads Hayley found herself at when she was in her job, while experimenting with various side hustles as she tried to figure out her next steps.
The ‘freedom’ that having a full time job as a safety net provided Hayley in making more aligned decisions about her path forward.
The core ingredients Hayley recognized were essential to her finding deeply fulfilling work.
The trials and errors that Hayley went through to land and finally find her ‘thing’ and the amazing flow that came with that.
    And so much more!
