#110 Birthdays and Lament
It's Angela's birthday week and we have a new soundboard! We talk about all the celebratory things on her birthday agenda including Taylor Swift and the swans.
We also talk about serious things including our struggle with identity and confidence and who we are to the Lord. Your circle is supposed to be proud not jealous. Why is it so hard for females to address what needs to be addressed? Confidence and identity have to be taught over and over again from a very young age. If the enemy can keep us looking sideways at each other instead of focusing on his plan for our own lives, of course we will struggle with competition! We get so distracted so easily.
Angela makes a confession about her emotional mentos explosion, her new coping mechanism and what the Lord is teaching her in this season. We need our people, but we need the Lord's wisdom and guidance the most!
Bad leaders try to reframe the situation. Good leaders own up to their mistakes and weaknesses.
Soil is truly an antidepressant. The smell of mycobacterium vacii, a microorganism found in soil, compost and leaf mold, lights up neurotransmitters that release serotonin (a mood-lifting hormone).
We also talk about what we are learning in Fellowship University on "rejoicing in suffering" and not rushing the process. Don't be quick to escape the faith-testing valleys that produce the fertile soil we need to grow. One of the best things we can say to someone who is suffering is simply "I am so sorry."
We can't explain it away but we can be with our people in their pain and remember three simple takeaways: This life is temporary. There is accomplishing power in every trial. God is always with us.
"Bookend your laments with praise and surround your needs with reminders of who God is. How are you choosing to praise God today? Praise is the bread in a lament sandwich." The Bible Recap
Proverbs 16:24: "Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body."

#109 How to Be a Boss with Margaret Anne Byrd
Margaret Anne embodies everything we love about our younger friends. She is fun, honest, wise and confident as she shares how she relied on the Lord to navigate an uncertain path and become her own boss! We talk about her successes and challenges and what the Lord is teaching her in this season of "in betweens." Y'all are in for a treat with this encouraging and inspiring episode.
Some of our favorite takeaways:
On control: We were not meant to control everything. It's okay to do my very best and also let the Lord lead me.
On setting healthy boundaries: You have to teach people how to treat you.
On collaborating iwth other strong women: I realized she had strengths that weren't my strengths. It's fun to see what we can create together that we know we couldn't have created by ourselves
It's cool to see who God puts in your life to help you flourish.
On trusting God's timing: There's nothing wrong with you if your plan looks different and takes longer than everyone else's. Your story is not anyone else's story.
