Ep. 96 | Life after Childhood Trauma - Resolving the Past to Move Forward in Personal Relationships

Ep. 96 | Life after Childhood Trauma - Resolving the Past to Move Forward in Personal Relationships

Hey friend, today’s topic is pretty heavy. We are talking about some childhood trauma in the form of abuse, and I want to prepare you for that in case you have kids in the room and want to wait to listen to this when no little ears are present. This is a tough subject, but I also feel like it’s important to talk about. Joric McLean went through the unimaginable not only with his mom, but also with his stepmom from a very young age. His story is powerful. It will make you angry.

It will make you cry, and it will make you feel all the emotions in between. We don’t go into detail about the trauma, but if you want to hear more about his specific struggle/victory story, I encourage you to pick up a copy of the Lemonade Stand 2 anthology.

He told me no question is off-limits today, so we’re going to dive deep into his struggles, the mental shifts he made, how he made the best of the cards he was dealt, and the biggest lessons he learned from his childhood experience. We also talk about how to help our men open up about any trauma they may have encountered so our relationships can thrive and they don’t have to feel like they have to bottle up the pain and can move forward from their past into a thriving future.

One of Joric’s missions is to encourage others to get help sooner rather than later so those old wounds of the past doing creep into adult relationships with spouses, partners, or kids. It’s important to resolve the past or at least come to grips with it so you don’t have to keep reliving it through current or future relationships.

Ep. 95 | The 2021 Boston Marathon Experience | How Did it Go???

The 2021 Boston Marathon is a wrap! This was the first-ever (and possibly only) fall Boston Marathon, and it was quite an experience! There were highs, there were lows, and everything in between. The weather was almost perfect, and the crowds did not disappoint. Find out why this was my SLOWEST marathon ever and what my favorite sign was along the racecourse :)

I'm headed to Boston today to prepare for the Boston Marathon... a dream come true! This is deemed my victory run--and it's been years of waiting. Today I'll share what that means to me, what a victory run is, and how you can have your own victory run (no need to be a runner). If you're in waiting right now and just hoping that you'll come out the other side of your struggle, this episode is for you.

Ep. 93 | Letting Go of Toxic Relationships and Rising Again - It is Possible!

Ep. 93 | Letting Go of Toxic Relationships and Rising Again - It is Possible!

The story I’m sharing today is about a phoenix rising - Tina Krebs rose out of the ashes of her dark, toxic past and has flourished in a beautiful future. After getting up the courage to leave not just one, but two toxic relationships, she slowly picked up the pieces and put together a new life for her and her two children, one filled with renewal and hope and a new beginning.

This episode is not a light topic. We go pretty deep and heavy, and you may not want your children listening in on the topics we are covering. Tina has endured a very difficult past filled with lies, cheating, and abuse. It’s hard to tell the story without some of those details seeping in.

I hope her story encourages you to be brave and fight and stand up for what’s right. You never know when and if someone else will need you to stand by them.

Ep 92 | Trust in Transition - Heartfelt Chats

Ep 92 | Trust in Transition - Heartfelt Chats

We bought a house! What does it mean to trust while going through transition or change? What does it mean to trust while waiting for circumstances to turn around? Today I share a little about what trust has meant to me this past year as we encountered multiple trials and transitions. One thing I have realized is that waiting on God's timing is so worth it.

Ep. 91 | What Does Walking in Love and Justice Mean from a Biblical Standpoint?

Ep. 91 | What Does Walking in Love and Justice Mean from a Biblical Standpoint?

Ecclesiastes 1:9 says, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.”

What do we need to remember? The Bible is our standard, and it has outlasted time. We don’t get to pick and choose what we want to be true. We don’t get to change who God says we are just because we don’t feel like ourselves today. The Bible is our standard, and as Christians, we see things through that lens, that’s what a Biblical worldview is, and that is why it’s important for us to be in the Word, praying, journaling, studying, growing. If we are not solid in the Word of God, we could fall for anything.

So how do we take a stand on God’s Word in love, walking in love without changing our standards? How do you walk in love and justice from a Biblical perspective? What does this look like? What boundaries do we need to set up for ourselves? How do we not get walked all over yet continue to show love to others? How do we show love to the unloving?

These are questions of our day, and today is an encouraging conversation because I’m bringing on marriage and family therapist Jessica Hayes to help us navigate how to walk in love and justice without giving up our moral or Biblical standards.
