Episode 351 - North Korean Abductions: Korean Career Couriers

Kidnapping might seem like an odd solution to low levels of education, but for The Democratic People's Republic of Korea it seemed like a perfect plan. Whisk away international intelligentsia to your hermit kingdom and reprogram them to become perfect North Korean citizens, capable of pushing forward your scientific endeavours – or more importantly, directing a cult classic knock-off Godzilla movie.

Unfortunately, it is a plan that hasn’t gone down overly well with the rest of the world. So how did it happen? And is it still going on today?

    Episode 350 - War Machine

When Christine Mackinday and her boyfriend were interrupted in bed by her ex-fiancé – a 200-pound ex-MMA fighter who had legally changed his name to War Machine – she had every reason to fear for her life.

In 2001 on a remote stretch of highway in Australia’s Northern Territory, British backpacker Peter Falconio vanished. His girlfriend, Joanne Lees, told police that they had been attacked by a strange man. ShortHand: Winston Churchill - Genocidal Maniac or Pride of Britain?

ShortHand: Winston Churchill - Genocidal Maniac or Pride of Britain?

The man who the BBC named the best ever Briton has been having something of a reputation change in the past few years. These days, only one in five young people have a positive view of Churchill.

From Churchill’s role in the Bengal famine – in which three million Indians starved to death on his watch – to some pretty intense white nationalism, Hannah and Suru look at the truth of one of the most chequered legacies around.

Episode 349 - A Death in Old Peking

Episode 349 - A Death in Old Peking

The state of Pamela Werner’s body alone would have been enough to send 1930s Peking into a frenzy. She’d been frantically stabbed, her chest cut wide open, and four of her internal organs had been precisely removed...

But Pamela was the daughter of a high-ranking British diplomat. And the death of a white girl in the ancient Chinese capital, in 1939 – when anti-foreigner revolts were bubbling and the entire country was under threat of invasion by Japan – rocked the city, in the last days of old China.

    ShortHand: Swatting

    ShortHand: Swatting

When a SWAT team turned up at the front door of Wichita resident Andrew Finch, he only had seven seconds of confusion, before he was shot in the chest by an armed police officer. He couldn’t have ever guessed that the team of black-uniformed officers had been called as a prank – over a $1.50 bet on a game of Call of Duty.

Finch was a casualty of Swatting – a kind of real-world trolling where hoax bomb threats and homicides are called against gaming opponents. So how did it start? And what are the egotistical toerags who do it trying to prove?

Best podcast ever and I listen to all of them

So I am an aesthetician and I do lashes and extensions all day so safe to say for 90% of my clients there is sleep while I’m working so I have 10+ hours of podcast to listen to a day. I blew through every season of the show too fast. They can’t make them fast enough. These two girls are absolutely amazing at what they do, their banter back-and-forth is the only show that makes me laugh. They don’t even know that they’re being funny but I catch myself, laughing out loud. Between this show and most of the other shows on the channel they fill up my day. thank you for making this amazing show. I truly appreciate your show and all that you do for it.

Stopped because you’re brown

Did you really say that? That’s the reason why she may be stopped at the airport? Oh, my…

An easy listen

This show is great. The hosts are fun and have lovely voices. So easy to listen to and not an abundance of off topic chatter/side talk.

I listen to loads of podcasts (8 hrs/day at work @ 2x speed!) I’ve heard lots of stories told and retold sometimes 3, 4, or 5 times but these ladies always seem to have unique view points and theories.
Plus, the episodes are really well researched, and include info. that often isn’t included in other versions. This telling of “White House Farms Murders” is a personal favorite of mine.
