In this episode, I'm joined by Ilan Breil. Formerly a literary manager, he now focuses his time in producing and offering script consultant services. Throughout his career, he has helped launch several television creators/showrunners, including Jon Bokenkamp (The Blacklist), Scott Rosenbaum (The Shield, Queen of the South), Monica Owusu-Breen (Lost), Conrad Vernon (Producer/Director Sherek 2 & 3 and Sausage Party) and Andy Reaser (Grey's Anatomy), among many others. With over 20 years of experience, he has worked with all mejor studios and networks, and has an extensive contacts network that includes managers, agents and buyers. He currently also has a slate of tv and films in different stages of development.

As a consultant, he assist in navigating the choppy politics of getting your script exposed and read by the entertainment business at large. He is able to provide specific information about the industry (seek advice/guidance), offer script/development consulting or guide you on how to get your material ready for distribution.

In this episode, I chat with Kimberley Browning. An expert on all things film festivals, Kimberley shares some of the key things to keep in mind in order to build a successful festival strategy that best works for your specific film. She explains the different types of relationships we have with our movies, and the importance of being critical in certain decisions. She also talks about the importance of festivals in general, and how they can help us advance our careers as a filmmaker.

Originally a musician, Kimberley made a successful transition to filmmaking early on. She is now a director, producer and festival programmer. She is also the founder of the Hollywood Shorts Film Festival, which she continues to be the director of. Furthermore, Kimberley offers consultation services to help filmmakers build a festival strategy that will serve their project, saving the money in entrance fees for festivals that just aren't the right fit.

One of my absolutely favorite people in the industry, she actively works to bring down barriers and create space for all marginalized people. 

In her usual candid manner, Cheryl shares the key role mentorship has played in her own career, the importance of connecting with others on a human level, and how one must always forge their own way. In the episode, Cheryl shares stories, hurdles she's had to overcome, and her advice for those that are just starting out. She also shares her key strategy to get someone's attention when surrounded by people during festivals.
