Chapter 17 describes the woman, ‘Babylon the Great, Mother of all Prostitutes and Obscenities in the World’, seated on a scarlet beast, and her destruction. Many commentators argue that the woman represents the apostate church which will be allowed global influence for a time during the tribulation period, but will then be totally destroyed by political leaders.
