    1.11: perspective requires time

For our season finale we bring you a mediation on time recorded deep in the darkness of the 2020 winter solstice. We try to visualize time and test the limits of its reality. We reflect on the process of making Ritual of Perspective and what we have learned as a result of maintaining the practice of showing up for each other and for this project.

Thank you so much for listening to season one of ROP. We are grateful and humbled everyday knowing that these conversations live outside of us and can travel across the world and across time to reach you exactly where you’re at.

    1.10: life and death

    1.10: life and death

What happens when we turn to face the reality of death? We have touched on this topic in past episodes and in this episode we deep dive into how we’ve come into relationship with death and dying as individuals and how that has informed our cultural awareness of death. We consider the ways that death extends beyond a single body and how it impacts culture, systems and our daily lived experiences whether we are aware of it or not.

    1.9: you're always choosing yourself

*content warning: intimate partner abuse* One week from our air date, Hana will be featured in her first gallery exhibition at Allouche Gallery in New York City. Though it was recorded on Thanksgiving 2020, this episode paints a brave portrait of all that Hana has survived in order to reach this point in her life.  She reminds us to be grateful every damn day as she works her way through remembering her experience of surviving an abusive relationship and how she and her art have evolved in the eight years since.

    ---

If you’re in New York and want to witness the brilliance that is Hana Kostis and her art, head over to Allouche Gallery on May 6, 2021 for the opening of INTRICATE INTIMATE, an erotic art group exhibition curated by Swoon, Monica Canilao and BLK PALATE. The show runs through June 2, 2021!

    1.8: unf*cking ourselves

    1.8: unf*cking ourselves

Does a “perfect” parent-child relationship exist? We are skeptical. In this episode, recorded the day before the 11th anniversary of Eliana’s mom’s death, we look at ways that our parents have f*cked us up and how we’ve learned (and are still learning) to unf*ck ourselves.

1.7: I got a brand new pair of roller skates

Here in 2021 we’ve just emerged into spring, but in this episode it’s the week after Joe Biden has been declared president elect and we’re heading fast into the depths of winter. We’re a little less anxious then last week, but the big question of 2020 still looms: now what? How do we harness the energy of collective joy to get us through what comes next? What do we do when our immediate circumstances haven’t been radically altered by an election? We discuss hope as an evolutionary trait and how it can help us to embrace change.

    1.6: remember november?

    1.6: remember november?

Picture it: early November 2020 and we still don’t know the president will be. Vaccines haven’t rolled out and we’re feeling as anxious as ever. How do we keep from spiraling? Do we really need a vacation? We contemplate radical rest and how to responsibly interact with the process of going back to “normal” regardless of who is in the oval office. And now in 2021 we wonder how much has really changed?

Edit: Hana quotes a line from Scallop’s Hotel’s album Plain Speaking as “anxiety is the dizziness of consciousness” when it is really “anxiety is the dizziness of freedom.” Our analysis stands.

Feels like home

This podcast is so rad. Makes me feel like I’m hanging out with close friends during a time I don’t get to do just that. Existential subjects and just being real is a vibe - that’s what listening to the Ritual of Perspective gives.
