Episode 226: Anders Beck of Greensky Bluegrass

Episode 226: Anders Beck of Greensky Bluegrass

I’m super pumped to speak with Anders Beck for Episode 226!! Anders is the dobro player for Greensky Bluegrass, whose unique blend of Bluegrass and Rock and makes it one of the most compelling sounds in live music today.  Greensky has been touring practically non-stop for over 20 years, and Anders stopped in to chat with me just after completing their Winter Tour with yet another sold out two-night run at the Ryman Auditorium. Anders has a fun-loving and super chill vibe, and he is filled with gratitude for his place in life. “Music means live music,” Anders explained to me, and his appreciation for doing exactly what he set out to do; that is, play live music in a successful touring band, is utterly inspiring and heart-warming. Anders embodies what music is all about, and I’m here for it. Join both of us for this week’s episode!!

    Episode 225: Rett Madison

    Episode 225: Rett Madison

This was certainly one of the most poignant and moving interviews I’ve conducted on Roadcase. I talked to the amazing Rett Madison, who tells the story of her investigation, discovery and ultimately, vindication in uncovering the source of her Mother’s pain during her short life, and it was both chilling and empowering to hear. You need to really hear this story to believe it — we’re talking coincidences and psychic mediums revealing details that I could hardly believe… until I heard it first-hand!  Rett, whose voice is truly one-of-a-kind, recounts this gripping story in intimate detail, on her new album, One for Jackie. Thank you, Rett, for sharing your amazing story with me!!  I cannot recommend this episode enough.

Episode 224: Brooklyn Bowl's Anna Ayers

Episode 224: Brooklyn Bowl's Anna Ayers

March was International Women’s Month and I sat down with Anna Ayers, the General Manager at Brooklyn Bowl Williamsburg, for this week’s episode of Roadcase. I talked to Anna not only about her role at Pete Shapiro’s flagship venue but also chatted about her background in performing arts, the music business, and what it means to her to work in the unique environment at the Bowl, which features women in all major management roles. Anna is a truly compelling personality and a perfect fit for the Brooklyn Bowl ethos of peace, love, diversity, amazing food and insane live music — and I’m all about it!

    Episode 223: Dallon Weekes (iDKHOW)

    Episode 223: Dallon Weekes (iDKHOW)

Dallon Weekes is here on Roadcase this week, and I'm excited to share my interview with this veteran performer and experienced touring artist.  Dallon began his career in Salt Lake City with his band The Brobecks, and then spent years with Panic! At The Disco before settling on most recent project, I DON'T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME (iDKHOW). Dallon is an intriguing mix of artistry, family man, and musical sage, if you will -- and has a keen wit and fun-loving personality.  I had a great time chatting with Dallon and we cover a ton of ground including his attitudes towards mental health and his experience a parent of teenagers. It's a fun and unique trip through the extraordinarily creative and uber-sharp mind of Dallon Weekes, and I'm here for it.  Check it out on this week's Roadcase!!

    Episode 222: Myron Elkins

    Episode 222: Myron Elkins

I’m so pleased to have Myron Elkins on the show for this week’s episode. Myron is a super sweet and sincere human with a gentle and forthright presence, and we talk about his upbringing in rural Michigan as a self-admitted outlier, all the while devoting his free-time to honing his musical chops. After high school, Myron eventually landed a job as a welder when he was discovered after a seminal acoustic gig in Nashville, miraculously, by Dave Cobb, multiple-Grammy winning producer, who offered Myron a record deal and produced his debut album, Factories, Farms & Amphetamines. For a shy kid from small-town Michigan, it was a dream come true, but as you will come to know, also quite well deserved. I’m so happy to be able to share this truly unique and heart-warming story of a truly unique and introspective artist, Myron Elkins. Give a listen now!!

Episode 221: Brando Rich (Cash or Trade)

Episode 221: Brando Rich (Cash or Trade)

Fans need tickets and artists need fans. On this week’s episode, I talk to Brando Rich, co-founder and CEO of Cash or Trade, the popular ticket exchange app. Brando’s mission is to get tickets that might go unused into the hands of fans that need them -- at face value or less. As the de-facto head of the Face Value Movement, Brando talks to me about the intricacies of ticketing, how best to thwart scalpers, and how the live music experience is the vital essence that drives Cash or Trade’s continued growth and expansion. Brando wants fans to enjoy the amazing experience of live music, and he learned early on from the Phish and jam band world that by using his programming expertise, he could unite fans with face value tickets in a community of like minded music lovers. Idealistic?  Yes!  Feasible and doable?  Yes and yes!! I really enjoyed this conversation with Brando as we explore this crazy and tangled up world of ticketing. I learned a ton, and so will you on this week’s episode of Roadcase!!

This show rocks, provides great insight on what it takes to make it the industry. I met Josh at a couple shows (Greensky and Dusters), really friendly and thoughtful. Gave stickers to all my friends and me :) Keep it up, Josh!

Please don’t step on the artists comments. Seems like you also interrupt what is being said. Work on active listening skills.

Josh’s Hard Work Pays Off

After riding rail at many shows with Josh, I have no doubt he is one of the best hosts to bring the behind the scenes look to fans. This is a great podcast and I am excited he is able to share his passion in this way.
