Sarah McMillan Equestrian Hub Podcast

    • Sports

Sarah McMillan is a thirty-year-old jumping rider from the Central Coast in NSW.
Sarah grew up in the professional sector of the sport, and since completing her Honours Law Degree 2018, has been a full-time professional show jumping rider.
Sarah is currently the highest-ranked female jumping rider in Australia, finishing reserve champion for the “Australian FEI World Cup League” (the highest level of competition jumping on Australian soil). This has qualified her to represent Australia and to compete in the World Cup Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - a stella finish to the year, after having being awarded ‘FEI World Cup League Rookie of the Year’ in 2022.
In early 2023, with her horse, Tyrone, they were the first Australian partnership to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games to be held this year. Tyrone and Sarah have since earned their MER again.
2023 results:
- Sale World Cup - 1
- Shepparton World Cup - 1
- Caboolture World Cup – 2
- Larapinta World Cup – 6
- GDP Grand Prix – 4
- JWTS – 7yo Q – 1
- JWTS – 7yo Final – 2nd (to overall Champion of Champions).
- FEI World Cup League 2023 - Reserve Champion Rider
Sarah's training philosophy is ‘quality over quantity’. Given this, she rides, manages and train only her own horses which, she believes, results in details never being missed and their development never being compromised. She has curated a strong methodology in training young horses to high level jumpers.
Her training philosophy, coupled with her work-ethic, has manifested itself in a long and successful performance record, not just in recent years, but throughout her junior and young rider classes, including: six State Jumping Titles, multiple ‘best performed/leading rider’ at Royal Shows, various wins at Australian Championships, international competition and success, World Cup wins, and being selected to represent Australia in international teams classes on various occasions.
