At the Cru Leadership Summit that summer, Cru director Kim Johnson announced that Northwestern’s Cru and Impact chapters were splitting up. Reactions from black students in Cru ranged from blindsided to devastated, but following the schism, NU’s newly independent Impact chapter worked hard to rebuild.
