Daryen Jefferson of Douglass talks about getting into the running life | Fields & Futures Huddle Up

Sam Mayes sat down with Daryen Jefferson, a cross country and track star from Douglass High School. Originally running to get in better shape for basketball, Jefferson has become a top cross country runner, looking for opportunities to run in college. He's also used the focus he's learned on the track to become the No. 1 student in his class at Douglass. Fields & Futures has supported schools like Douglass in the Oklahoma City Public Schools District to provide facilities and equipment to athletes. "Having people helping us get better is a true blessing."
Today's Fields & Futures Huddle Up is sponsored by the Simon Greiner Program. The Simon Greiner Program enthusiastically promotes the sports of Track and Field and Cross Country in OKCPS. The SGP is a collaborative effort between Don & Shellie Greiner, Cleats for Kids, and Fields & Futures. More information: https://www.facebook.com/simongreinerprogram/

Episode highlights:💪 The process and grind of practice are more important than the actual races for success in long-distance running.🏃‍♂️ Daryen's work ethic and determination to excel in running, despite physical differences, is a testament to the power of hard work and dedication.🏀 Unlike basketball, running keeps the heart rate at 180 to 200 beats per minute for extended periods, making it a unique and challenging sport.🔥 The competitive drive and motivation to improve without being pushed is truly exceptional.🏈 Overcoming challenges in college sports can be a transformative experience, leading to personal growth and resilience.💬 "I want to be with a big team that's going to make me better basically." - Daryen's focus on surrounding himself with a group that will push him to improve.🌟 Organizations like Field & Futures in Oklahoma City are helping young people find a path to a better life through sports.🌟 The impact of organizations like Fields & Futures goes beyond just providing sports facilities, as they can positively influence family dynamics and involvement.

Did the College Football Playoff selection committee get it right with Alabama, Florida State?

Did the College Football Playoff selection committee get it right with Alabama, Florida State?

The College Football Playoff selection committee made its choices known Sunday morning, and the Sellout Crowd crew has thoughts. Lots of thoughts. Berry Tramel doesn’t believe the right team is No. 1. Guerin Emig thinks the committee set an unfortunate precedent leaving out an undefeated Power Five team. And Jenni Carlson admits she thought, yes, the committee could actually leave out the SEC entirely. Todd Lisenbee quarterbacks the discussion about all of that and more.
0:32: Guerin says the committee went to a place he didn’t think it would go.2:14: Jenni argues someone is always going to get left out, even when the playoff field expands.5:00: Berry didn’t have a problem with Alabama over Florida State, but he has an issue with the rationale.6:40: Todd says Florida State had an offset to a down year in the ACC.7:30: Jenni questions whether the strength of the ACC was what cost Florida State.11:05: Guerin wonders if the committee actually just selected the four best teams on conference-title-game weekend.15:25: Berry says the committee faced a harsh reality if it left out the SEC.16:46: Does Georgia have a complaint to make the playoff?20:14: Why don’t nine-game and eight-game conference schedules matter?21:23: What about these semifinal matchups?
