47: Pilate: "What Is Truth?" — From The Garden to The Cross

47: Pilate: "What Is Truth?" — From The Garden to The Cross

    Episode Type: Special Edition

Welcome to another special edition of the Share Life podcast. We're in an ongoing series, as part of the discovery process for my next book project, From The Garden to the Cross: How Jesus' Harrowing Mission Shows Us The Way Forward.

In this discussion, we reflect on the moments where Jesus was presented to Pilate by the religious leaders and ending with Pilate asking Jesus, What is Truth? For those just now following along, this event takes place after Jesus' agonizing prayer in the garden, his arrest and betrayal by Judas, a night of scheming to find a way to sentence Jesus to death, the three denials of knowing Jesus by Peter, and the death of Judas. We'll now focus our attention on where Jesus is now presented to Pilate by the religious leaders for execution.

Some topics of the discussion include:

Pilate's allegiance to the differently motivated people involved.
The blatant hypocrisy and cowardice of the Sanhedrin.
The ruthlessness of Pilate and how that differed from his encounter with Jesus.

We'll read and discuss my harmonization of the story from the different accounts of Jesus' life with quotes from the New Living Translation of the Bible. Then, we'll explore the story through the following questions: What we can learn about Jesus, humanity, and ourselves from this monumental moment in time? How does this event apply to our lives today?

    Fellow Conversation Participants

46: Judas' Death & His Betrayal Payment — From The Garden To The Cross

46: Judas' Death & His Betrayal Payment — From The Garden To The Cross

    Episode Type: Special Edition

Welcome to another special edition of the Share Life podcast. This episode continues my special edition series, as part of the discovery process for my next book project, From The Garden to the Cross: How Jesus' Harrowing Mission Shows Us The Way Forward.

In this discussion episode, part 5, we're reflecting on the death of Judas after he returns the betrayal money. This event follows Peter's Denial of Jesus while Jesus is being interrogated by the religious leaders after Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested, and hours after Jesus' agonizing moment of prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.

In this conversation, we jump into the passage about Judas returning the money to the religious leaders, the ending of his life, and his legacy.

For those just now following along, Judas' death takes place after Judas betrayed Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane with a kiss and after he was paid 30 pieces of silver for his actions.

Some of the highlights from our discussion include:

How often we use Jesus as a pawn in our pursuit of power and control and the messiness of grace.
The complexity of Judas and how often we emphasize the simplicity to villainize Judas and separate ourselves from the possibility of relating to or ending up like him.

43: Appalachian Trail Hiking Insights — Life Lessons Learned With Don Neder

43: Appalachian Trail Hiking Insights — Life Lessons Learned With Don Neder

    Episode Type: Listen to Learn

Welcome to another episode of the Share Life Podcast. Today, I'm speaking with Don Neder about the life, work, and societal lessons learned during his first leg of the Appalachian Trail hike.

Don is a long-time entrepreneurial friend who founded FlowGevity where he helps people live the healthiest life (mental and physical) possible by teaching simple techniques (Wim Hof Method and cold therapy to name two) for sustaining wellbeing. In one of the earliest episodes of the podcast, I interviewed Don about his ice baths, the Wim Hof breathing method, and his approach to stewarding our bodies.

In this Listen to Learn episode, we talk about Don's first stint on the Appalachian Trail. He's hiked about 25% of the trail and plans to finish after his temporary pause to be available as his daughter gives birth to a grandchild. During this moment of reflection, I pelt Don with questions about his experience, what he's learned along the way, and how he's changed from the experience so far.

42: The Interrogation of Jesus by Caiaphas & The Religious Leaders — From The Garden To The Cross

42: The Interrogation of Jesus by Caiaphas & The Religious Leaders — From The Garden To The Cross

    Episode Type: Special Edition

Welcome to another special edition of the Share Life podcast. We're in an ongoing series, as part of the discovery process for my next book project, From The Garden to the Cross: How Jesus' Harrowing Mission Shows Us The Way Forward. In this episode discussion, we're reflecting on the interrogation of Jesus by the religious leaders after his arrest in the garden of Gethsemane.

Before we jump into the specific discussion about the particular passage of Jesus being interrogated in the middle of the night, we take a step back and self-reflect on the status of the Christian church in America. We're about to discuss a scene where an innocent man is interrogated, where false witnesses are brought out against him, and where human intentions to convict supersede the truth of the situation. When we look around at believers, we often seem to look more like the deceptive religious leaders than we do Jesus. What's going on?

After we explore that idea, we jump into the passage about Jesus being interrogated. Join us as we explore the story through the following questions: What we can learn about Jesus, humanity, and ourselves from this monumental moment in time? This particular moment begins soon after Jesus was betrayed by Judas and arrested in the garden of Gethsemane.
