Shmuel and Sharon Goodman - Transparency in Parenting and Financial Responsibility

Shmuel and Sharon Goodman - Transparency in Parenting and Financial Responsibility

Tune in for our conversation with Shmuel (Steve) and Sharone Devorah (Sharon) Goodman, a Chabad baal teshuva couple. After Shmuel and Sharon married and settled down in Shmuel's native Columbus, Ohio, Shmuel began managing the family business: a chain of retail stores that sold children’s clothing. But the business ended up in bankruptcy, while Shmuel battled and ultimately overcame cancer. The Goodmans relocated to Chicago, Illinois, to raise their four children in the Chabad community, where Shmuel launched Nestegg Group: Investment Advisors, a trusted investment firm which he continues to oversee today. This is the story of the Goodmans' baal teshuva journey and the lessons they learned about transparent parenting and financial responsibility along the way.

Rabbi Yitzchok Hanoka - Story of My Father, Dr. Yaakov Hanoka, a Baal Teshuva Pioneer

Rabbi Yitzchok Hanoka - Story of My Father, Dr. Yaakov Hanoka, a Baal Teshuva Pioneer

In our fourteenth episode, Rabbi Yitzchok Hanoka shares the inspiring life story of his father, Dr. Yaakov Hanoka of blessed memory, a pioneer in the early days of the baal teshuva movement. Through his son's recollections and research, we learn of Dr. Hanoka's pathbreaking transformation in the early 1960s from an enterprising physicist at Penn State to a well-balanced, humorous, and "solar-powered" chossid of the Rebbe. We discuss the phenomenal care and concern the Rebbe invested in Dr. Hanoka's success as a prototype for baal teshuva success, and how Dr. Hanoka proved instrumental in connecting others to the Rebbe and supporting them along their journey.

Listen through to the end to hear some famous (and other lesser known) stories featuring Dr. Hanoka's sense of humor, life experiences, and practical advice for living a grounded and balanced life.

Note: The Gilles children successfully resisted our bedtime efforts in conjunction with this interview, so Rivka joins us part-way through the conversation.

I Really enjoy your podcast. Having been in the teshuva process my whole life, it is so refreshing to hear these discussions. At times its topics that I have expressed in conversation with others. At other times it is topics that have been experienced, yet needed to be expressed. Really so so so helpful. I think this is a wonderful podcast BH. Thank you!
