    Episode 4: Children of Immigrants

    The fourth episode of the South Asian Occupational Therapy Experience discusses the lived experience of children of immigrants in the context of occupation. This episode was recorded in March, before the most recent racialized violence and mass murders occurred. This episode was not intentionally delayed; life just got in the way. We got into many critical conversations around racism, some that weren't recorded, including being targeted for violent hate crimes. Communities of color are mourning and have been in pain for a long time despite constantly working to survive and thrive.     Episode 3: Religion in the Context of Occupation

We had this conversation off-camera, but it is important to note that many religions only refer to gender binaries, excluding large groups of people. We discuss gender roles based on our experiences with these religions. Some denominations are more inclusive and open up these roles beyond the binary.     Episode 2: Dating as an Occupation

    The second episode of the South Asian Occupational Therapy Experience explores dating and marriage in the South Asian cultural context with considerations for occupational therapy practice. We didn't get into this in the episode, but divorce is still uncommon in South Asian culture. Many South Asian's can feel trapped in their marriages, and that divorce is not an option, even in domestic abuse situations, leading to depression and trauma. Divorce can cause shame, guilt, and even rejection from family and friends.
