    Introducing: Suspect from Wondery

    Introducing: Suspect from Wondery

A big Halloween party at an apartment complex in Redmond, Washington. Themed rooms and costumed partygoers. But by the end of the party, one of the hosts is dead. The police look to the partiers as the prime suspects: was it the guy in the devil mask, the bank robber, the construction worker?

As investigators comb through forensic evidence, witness testimony, DNA, and even consult with a psychic, they zero in on one suspect in particular. But for what reason? Host and reporter Matthew Shaer (Over My Dead Body) returns to the scene of the crime, speaks with everyone about a night that still haunts them years later.

It’s a series about race and policing, mislaid justice, cutting-edge science, and the kinds of weighty choices that cops and prosecutors make every day -- choices that, once made, are difficult to reverse.

128: The Belinda Temple Case, Part 2: The Trials of David Temple

After the brutal murder of Belinda Temple, an 8 month pregnant school teacher in 1999, the Harris County DA’s office took five years to finally charge her husband, David, with murder. They had an ace in the hole. They had star prosecutor Kelley Siegler. But David Temple’s family hired Dick DeGuerin, the guy who got Robert Durst off after he dismembered his landlord. The trial had the promised fireworks but afterwards, Kelly Siegler was accused of prosecutorial misconduct. So David Temple went to trial for a second time, 20 years after his wife was murdered. Will Belinda Temple and her unborn daughter ever get justice?

127: The Belinda Temple Case, Part 1: The Husband

127: The Belinda Temple Case, Part 1: The Husband

In January of 1999, 30 year old Belinda Temple, who was eight months pregnant, was found shot to death in her closet in Katy, Texas. Her husband, David Temple, was the obvious first suspect. But there wasn’t much evidence to connect him to the murder and he was seen on store cameras during the suspected time of the murder. But he had the oldest motive in the world. And Harris County DA’s Office would take almost five years to finally bring charges against him. The complicated legal wranglings and clash of two courtroom titans made this case a national sensation. And sometimes the very real woman, Belinda Temple, and her unborn daughter, Erin, are forgotten in the sensationalism. This is part 1 of 2 episodes.

    126: The Snowden Murders

A prominent southern family made their mark in Memphis, Tennessee and the tiny town of Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas with descendents dating back to the Civil War. Known for their philanthropy as much as their prosperity, the Snowden family were pillars of their community. They were eccentric and fun-loving, but also duty bound to their family name and heritage. And then the same man, 24 years apart, wrought tragedy into their storied history.

**This episode contains explicit language. It is marked explicit in all podcast platforms. Please, if cursing offends you, do not listen to this and then complain about the language.**

*We have a frank discussion about rape culture, including the Cosby case and other societal problems with sexual assault. We also discuss the pandemic and vaccination. If these subjects offend you, you are better off skipping this interview. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but you've been forewarned.*

Now, for Karin's fans, I hope you enjoy this chat. For people who have never read her books, I can't recommend her work enough.

Karin Slaughter is one of the world’s most popular and acclaimed storytellers.

The BEST true crime podcast you’ll find!

I am a loyal fan to several true crime podcasts- but this one definitely tops the chart for me. Erica’s historical overviews give such helpful insights and perspectives related to the case she’s discussing. As a psychologist, what I love most is her unwavering respect for the victims and their families in her story telling. Some true crime podcasts have lost sight of that- but not here. I am completely obsessed and have been binging all of it!
