Unmasking Manipulation - Power Dynamics in Religious Spaces

This week, we talk about the darker side of religious practices, exploring emotional, psychological, and even financial abuses that can occur in religious contexts. Whether you've faced religious trauma or are keen on understanding this uncharted area, this episode is a key resource. This week, we invite counselor, teacher, researcher, and podcaster Paula Swindle to discuss the sensitive subject of religious trauma or when spirituality is weaponized instead of used as a healing tool. Spiritual AF Sundays #43: Manifestation Beyond Materialism

If you've been following me for a while, you know that I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to all the talk about manifestation, vibration, Law of Attraction, and all that jazz. I'm aware of what I do and what I focus on, and I see where I'm at in life. I'll admit I'm very fortunate. I also see the amount of work others are doing and how they struggle, and I have a hard time believing that their struggles are because they aren't trying hard enough or because they aren't thinking the right thoughts. It's hard to reconcile the simplistic messages around manifestation with the systems and structures in the world that make life easier for some and harder for others based on things outside of their immediate control. Plus, whenever I hear people talk about manifesting - it's typically something material and extravagant. Like, manifestation coaches who live in luxury homes or destination locations. We follow them because we think that if we have what they have, we'll be happier, and that's not the case. It turns out I'm not alone in thinking critically about this. About Our Guest: Laura Hartley is an activist & coach helping changemaker deepen their impact while living their most thriving life. Fascinated by the relationship between inner and outer change, Laura bridges system change with self-work to empower changemakers with the skills of Getting Free: dismantling capitalism and patriarchy from the inside out.
