    Headlines: The Trouble is Not With Your Set

    Some of our listeners might remember the intro to the black-and-white classic, “Outer Limits”, in which the narrator told the viewer that what you are seeing, while bizarre, does not indicate a problem with the messenger, that big old console television “set”. But rather, an outside force that exists independently from your moderated TV reality is doing things you might not understand. And truly, 60 years later, there are things going on that the average person does NOT understand. And that TV set will not help them.  Only true spiritual light from the Holy Spirit will brighten our path and our understanding. As believers, we not only should have a basic grasp of events, but even the knowledge of how they all fit together. Now is not the time for a normality bias, but to understand our world –  that is headed for judgment. On today’s headlines podcast, we talk about a first time ever religious gathering of all religions of the world. There have been many such confabs claiming to unite the world, but not quite like this one. We also look at the unhinged conversation that the Mayor of Seattle had with any scoffers who might listen in, that the Jews and Christians – and technocrats – are going to bring us all kicking and screaming into Armageddon. Another topic: Elon Musk and his ancestral technocratic dreams. And speaking of unhinged, El Sayed wants to ban any Sharia bans in America.     Alex Newman: Faith, Freedom, and Double Standards

    Mary welcomes back Alex Newman to talk about keeping the faith when it comes to encroaching legal double standards.  First we look at the Maine court case in which a mom is being cut off from any rights to allow her daughter to be raised with biblical standards and a biblical worldview. The 13 year old daughter, who is a believer, is at the center of a case in which the father, an atheist, has forced a court decision to disallow any bible reading or church attendance when she is with her mother.  The court has been very careful to hide their bias by saying it’s about co-parenting “successfully”, awarding the father sole authority in the daughter’s spiritual upbringing, meaning, none. What about mom’s rights? Then we look at the new California mandate that would force churches to provide employees with “Anti-Hate Speech Training” and yet another encroachment into church’s rights. Then we address the September Lifeway poll that says that while most Christians they polled feel they can confidently defend the biblical worldview, a full third of those polled said that parts of the bible can also be considered “obsolete” as the culture changes, and in particular, and half of the Zoomers think this is acceptable. Does anyone have a high view of Scripture anymore? The bible warns us in anticipation of this slide to not be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.  And finally, midterms: El Sayed, candidate for Michigan US Senator, is trying to shut down proposed nationwide bans on Sharia by claiming these efforts constitute “White Supremacy”. So, if the daughter of the Maine father was Muslim and attending a mosque, would any of this matter to Maine? Or Michigan?     Chris Lawson: The HMS “Shack” and the Sinking of the Church

    Mary welcomes back apologist and author Chris Lawson to talk about a subject both had hoped would never come up again: the phenomenally successful The Shack. William Paul Young has done it again in publishing a sequel to his 25 million selling book that was never intended to go into the Christian book market. The new book, “Return to the Shack” must be vetted as thoroughly as the original. Problem is, the original was largely swallowed hook, line and sinker, much to the detriment of the church. The original was very much a Kodak moment in the church already. So what’s new if anything in this 2026 model? We talk about his theology, the doubling down of his unorthodox New Age flavored universalism, and look at how the church can take a stand against such postmodern, heretical drivel.     Mary welcomes back Russ Miller to talk about what the Greco-Roman world referred to as their very own brand of professional intellectuals, logicians, and academic debaters who relied on philosophy, rhetoric, and argument to define truth. These disputers, as Paul calls them, were said to be “inquirers of truth” but many of us might wonder if they were ever, or are today, actually interested in truth! Today’s conversation with Russ is a bit different, taking the perspective of the unbeliever/atheist and in looking at Romans 1 in which we learn that all men know there is a Creator, and what it means when they deny it. We talk about the big bang and its origins, why skeptics refuse to believe in a Creator and why that might be a threat to them. We also look at their biggest questions, and add a few of our own.     Headlines: The Restraining Force

    On this week’s headline podcast, we talk about what is holding back the tide of evil in this overtly evil age. Did you ever stop to think about what God allows – and disallows? The dramatic events surrounding the FlyDubai flight of September 30 drove this home in that God really did do a miracle for those passengers, a full flight of Israelis, many of them flying to Israel to celebrate the feast of Tabernacles. So what kind of evil will be unleashed once the church is gone? Who is the Restrainer spoken of by Paul, and is there a connection between the two?  The church cannot agree, as usual, but there really is only one answer and it’s not some vague random power. We talk about antisemitism, Christianity being marginalized, and the comfort we can have when we realize that God is truly on the throne, involved in the affairs of men, and that the book of Revelation should inspire worship above all. A full hour looking at today, the only day we really have to do the work of God while we still can.     Olivier Melnick: Israel’s Long Night and the Coming Day

    Mary welcomes back Olivier Melnick on this eve the 3rd anniversary of the October 7 attacks. What has transpired in that time, what have we learned? Some of it is just so grievous, in the case of antisemitism.  Weeping for the night (Psalm 30:5) surely describes the scars on the the people over time – but joy in the morning – we often look at this through a far more temporal lens, the short view of day and night and our smaller trials but there is something much bigger in view here:  Israel’s long night of struggle and the dawn of redemption. We talk about Hamas and their agenda, and Europe and their agenda. None of it pro-Israel, of course.     Mary Danielsen: Hero-Centric, Template-Oriented, Motivational Branding

    Mary is back with a solo podcast taking on the late blooming fruit of the Purpose Driven/Seeker Sensitive/motivational paradigm of the corporate branding of the church. It’s been over 20 years since the Evangelical Industrial Complex redefined what a church is, what preaching is, and the consumer approach to all of it. Where are we at? It’s not good. Even small-to-middlin’ churches have adopted the cape wearing hero style of many if not most pastors today. What is a pastor, after all? Why are so many failing to finish well? If a church isn’t teaching the Bible systematically, what are they doing? Is there a name for what people sit through every Sunday? Many sharp Christians know what is missing, but they can’t seem to name it. We name it today. We look at C. Peter Wagner and Peter Drucker, the men responsible for the Signs and Wonders movement, the NAR, and the corporate top-down, success oriented view of the pews – and it is wholly unbiblical.     Chris Quintana: Ai – Good, Bad, or Neutral?

    Mary welcomes Chris Quintana back to the podcast to talk about Ai – morally, physically, philosophically, scientifically.  Some of us of a certain age thought our answering machines were pretty special, because before those things showed up, we were pretty much unreachable. Then came this century. There is so much to try and parse about Ai it’s mind-boggling. Today we look at how it should–or shouldn’t–be applied to bible prophecy; whether it’s artificial, intelligent, or just thinks it thinks. Many wishful thinkers believe that when it gets “intelligent enough” it will become conscious. Well, birds and dogs are conscious, but not nearly as intelligent as humans or Ai. What about if it escapes its pen? Is it really just a sophisticated answering machine or does it have no answers whatsoever? Does it hallucinate?
