EP 11: "Kelly Green & Gold" w/ Katie Kelly, Australian Olympic Gold Medalist in Paratriathlon
The Sufferfest Podcast: Everybody Hurts
Katie Kelly is an Australian triathlete who was diagnosed in her mid-20s with a degenerative disease known as Usher syndrome, which affects both hearing and vision. Declared legally blind in 2015 just a few months shy of her 40th birthday, Kelly contacted the Australian Paralympic Committee regarding her eligibility to compete in paratriathlon as a vision impaired paratriathlete. In the short time since she joined the elite ranks she’s garnered an impressive palmares, including gold medals at the 2015 ITU World Championships and most recently in the 2016 Rio Paralympics. We talk to Katie about the path she took on her way to gold in Rio, and what the future holds. -
EP 10: "Stories from the Tour of Sufferlandria" w/ Ethan Perlyn, Carol Bassett & Simon Andrew
The Sufferfest Podcast: Everybody Hurts
The 2017 Tour of Sufferlandria took place Feb 4-12. Many amazing stories came out of this year's Tour, but we're going to focus on three in particular:
1) Ethan Perlyn, an 8-year old from Miami, Florida, is the youngest person to ever complete the Tour. He also became the most prolific fundraiser, raising over $11,000 for the Davis Phinney Foundation.
2) Carol Bassett, an active member of the Sufferlandrian community, injured her shoulder shortly before the Tour. Despite being in a sling, Carol decided to ride anyway. Calling herself the One-Armed Bandit, Carol posted daily videos of herself completing the stages with her arm in a sling.
3) Simon Andrew is not only a Sufferlandrian, but an avid Medieval re-enactor. He decided to add an addition element to this year's Tour, completing each stage in full Medieval plate armour. His daily videos, where he tied each stage to a particular battle in the 100-Years War, showed that you don't have to be a knight to do the seemingly impossible. -
EP 9: "Dare to Dream" w/ The Sufferfest African Dream Team

We talk to team director Mark West and racers Likeleli Masitise, Malefetsane Lesofe, and Bakang Ebudilwe about the challenges and triumphs of competing at the highest levels of the sport. -

The Sufferfest - Everybody Hurts
EP 8: "Every Victory Counts" w/ Davis Phinney and Connie Carpenter-Phinney
Davis Phinney and Connie Carpenter-Phinney defined American cycling during the 80's and 90's: he as a dominant sprinter for the breakout American 7-11 squad where he became the second American ever to win a stage of the Tour de France, and she as the first Olympic gold medalist in the women's road race (among other notable wins). In 1999 Davis was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, a degenerative disorder of the nervous system. In 2004 Davis and Connie founded the Davis Phinney Foundation to help improve the lives of those affected by Parkinson's. We talk to Davis and Connie about Suffering on the bike, re-defining victory, and living in the moment. -

The Sufferfest - Everybody Hurts
EP 7: "Col-blooded" w/ Mike Cotty
If you’ve spent any time at all in Sufferlandria, you know the name Mike Cotty. Endurance cyclist, hardman extraordinaire, and all-around badass, he’s also the man behind the Col Collective—inspiring and educating cyclists while riding some of the most beautiful climbs in the world. You could probably draw his butt from memory. Mike and his crew provide much of the footage for the descents you’re treated to during those all-too-brief rest periods in some of the Sufferfest videos. We talk to Mike about going deep, Suffering, and never sitting down.
