    Kelly Dudzik, WGRZ-TV

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by WGRZ-TV news reporter and anchor Kelly Dudzik to discuss several topics covering her life and Emmy-winning career in the business.
Kelly talks about growing up in Connecticut and knowing by the time she got in high school that TV news journalism was something she wanted to do with her life. She immediately began working hard to achieve her goal, accomplishing more in high school than many aspiring journalists do in college. Speaking of college, Kelly elaborates on why she decided to attend Syracuse and if there were other schools she considered.
Following Syracuse, Kelly set out in the work field, landing her first job in Wilkes-Barre, PA just two weeks after graduating.  That was the start of a well-traveled work journey that eventually took her to stops in Ohio, Montana and Arkansas before ultimately landing with WGRZ-TV Buffalo in 2013. Kelly tells stories of each her stops.
They spend time talking about the pros and cons of the job, the difficulties surrounding working TV news in a Covid environment, chemistry with colleagues and some pro tips for aspiring journalists out there.
They also talk about what most attracts Kelly to Buffalo, hobbies away from work and her favorite wing spot in town before finishing with the Fun Fact Finale, where we learn a ton of fun little nuggets about Kelly’s personal life.
You can follow Kelly on Twitter @KellyDudzikWGRZ and of course be sure to check out her excellent work at Channel 2.

Jack Eichel's Perfect Trade Fit, Plus Best Sports Movies

Jack Eichel's Perfect Trade Fit, Plus Best Sports Movies

It’s Casual Friday at Talking Buffalo Podcast and Patrick Moran is joined by sports writer and friend Joe Yerdon to discuss several topics, including what team he thinks is the perfect trade partner for the Buffalo Sabres to trade Jack Eichel to and why.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman said on his 31 Thoughts podcast this week that people are around the league are telling him to expect the Sabres to end up with two top 10 picks for next month’s NHL draft. With the Sabres already holding the top pick that likely means a team drafting high would be willing to move that selection in a package for potentially Eichel and/or Sam Reinhart. Joe goes in depth with three of those possible teams drafting high, including one picking in the top five that would likely present the Sabres with the best package back for their likely soon-to-be former captain. They also discuss Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reporting earlier in the week that the New Jersey Devils are definitely interested in Buffalo defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen.
The guys also spend some time highlighting a few of their favorite annual Buffalo summer events in the wake of things beginning to open up more as people begin to move on for Covid. Joe sheds light on why he prefers Taste of Buffalo as his summer event of choice while they both agree that Wing Fest is overrated.
They then move on to this week’s “Starting Five” draft and the topic is Sports Movies. Patrick won for a fourth consecutive week in last week’s Twitter poll, beating Joe 55%-45% in Fictional Sports Movie characters.  Can Joe break the losing streak this time around?

BONUS: Five Potential Buffalo Bills Breakout Stars

On this bonus Wednesday episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1 Buffalo podcast) to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills players that can be key 2021 contributors that are mostly flying under the radar.
The guys get into details of Patrick’s five-player list, a group that includes Cody Ford, Jacob Hollister, Dane Jackson, Gabriel Davis and Zack Moss. Aaron offers insight into what he likes about each player, and adds a few low-key breakout stars of his own, including A.J. Epenesa and Harrison Phillips.
They also discuss a great article written by Aaron’s colleague at Cover 1, Rob Quinn on his conversation with Bills safety Jordan Poyer in a chat that included Jordan’s recently self-admitted fight with addiction, a problem Rob himself has battled.

    Mike Harrington, The Buffalo News

    Mike Harrington, The Buffalo News

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a chat with Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News about a variety of topics focused on the Buffalo Sabres the “Buffalo” Blue Jays and plenty more.
Fans are getting to enjoy watching MLB live in Buffalo for the first time in 106 years. Mike discusses what the experience has been like covering Toronto games in Buffalo, the vibe he gets from the crowd, how the reaction to Toronto players has been and is answers if he thinks Buffalo could ever sustain major league baseball if given the opportunity.
They also talk about the Sabres and the misery that continues to haunt the franchise on and off the ice. Mike has thoughts on if we’ve seen the end of Jack Eichel in Buffalo, ditto for Sam Reinhart and Rasmus Ristolainen, what Kevyn Adams may fetch in the trade market, the pressure that’s on him to make good deals this summer, goaltending and who should be the Sabres next head coach.
Pat also can’t resist asking Mike if he actually enjoys doing podcast and other audio interviews and they have a conversation about some of the challenges Mike and members of the sports media have had doing their jobs navigating through Covid over the past 15 or so months.
Follow Mike Harrington on Twitter @ByMHarrington and of course support local journalism, which needs your support now more than ever by subscribing to The Buffalo News.

Sabres Changes Are Coming, Plus Best Fictional Sports Movie Characters

Sabres Changes Are Coming, Plus Best Fictional Sports Movie Characters

It’s Casual Friday at Talking Buffalo Podcast and Patrick Moran is joined by sports writer and friend Joe Yerdon to discuss several topics, including big changes likely coming with the Buffalo Sabres organization this summer and their weekly “Starting Five” draft, this week consisting of the best fictional sports movie characters.
It’s possible if not likely the Sabres will ultimately lift the interim tag and promote Don Granato to head coach soon enough, but it’s hardly expected to be the biggest Sabres news coming down the pike this summer. The chances of Jack Eichel remaining with Buffalo appear more bleak than ever, and Joe discusses an article he wrote on it earlier this week and explains why he thinks Eichel’s departure is imminent and it’s time for the organization to make the best out of losing their best player. They also discuss the strong probability of Sam Reinhart being gone and how convincing Reinhart Buffalo’s worth sticking around for would be the best thing Buffalo could accomplish this offseason.
This week’s “Starting Five’ consists of fictional sports movie characters, and the guys have a huge talent pool to choose from. Joe tries to break a three-week losing streak that saw Patrick win convincingly with HBO Original Series and Gangster Movies the past few drafts. Spoiler alert--the guys both predict they're gonna killed by critical fans following these selections.
All this and much more. Follow Joe on Twitter @JoeYerdon.
