"Welcome to the Techcess Podcast. Now, in today's episode, I'm going to be telling you everything that you need to know about SoGEA. Now, SoGEA or S.O.G.E.A, is a new technology that has come into the telecoms market. Now, I always promise here in the show to never talk about technical stuff or use a lot of acronyms and try and make everything that I talk about easily and accessible for everyone to understand.

    What does SoGEA stand for?
So, first of all, what does SoGEA even stand for? Right? So let's get the acronym out of the way. So it stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access. And basically what it is, it's a new way of providing broadband access to homes and businesses. Now, typically in the past, you have ordered a line and then had broadband enabled on that line, so there would have been a normal voice phone line and then broadband would be added onto it. But of course, over the years, as more people have relied on VoIP and the use of mobiles even in business, the use of a landline number that's on that broadband circuit has faded away. So nowadays, so many people just have broadband just for internet access. Like, for example, here at home, we have a typical broadband line with fibre to the cabinet service, but we have a line with that service enabled on it, right? And there's a phone number, but we never use that phone number. In fact, we don't even have a telephone plugged into it. We all just rely on our mobile phones. And of course, that's probably the same for you and for other people that, you know, that we just rely on mobile technology instead of using a landline telephone nowadays. So the whole idea behind this is to have a much simpler and easier and more efficient way for you to get hold of a fast internet connection.
Why are we talking about SoGEA now?
So why now? Why are we talking about this now? And what is the main reasons and driving forces behind moving to this new technology? Well, it's all to do with the big PSTN switch off, which is coming in 2025 as part of Digital Britain. And basically what's going to happen is the existing PSTN, and sorry to throw another acronym in today's episode, but it stands for the Public Switche

    "Welcome to Techcess
Les Johnson is joining me today to talk about "Business Beats Cancer Dundee", who are our charity partners for quarter three this year. And if you've been following the podcast, you'll know that we here at m3, we choose a charity once per quarter, so we support four charities per year, where we donate all of our customer feedback satisfaction to the charity and we convert all of that feedback into pounds. I mean, donate it at the end of the quarter. So Les is going to tell us all about the great work that they are doing over there and how you can get involved, and about a fantastic up and coming event that I'm sure you don't want to miss.
There is a little bit of a connection, actually in history with you, Les, and m3 because you actually designed the m3 Networks logo way back. It must be coming up for our 13th birthday next month. So many moons ago.
    Les
Yep still going strong. Which is good. Sign of a good logo.
    Mark
Yes, absolutely. It always gets mentioned, even now about how strong it looks with the colours and stuff. So, yeah, it stood well, the test of time. But we're not here to talk about us at m3 today. We're actually here to talk about Business Beats Cancer. And so maybe you can tell us a bit about, obviously the charity, what's been set up, what it does and who it's helping and things?
    Les
Well, business beats cancer. The Dundee chapter. The idea is being knocking around for some time. I think it's been a case of getting the right people on board. I think having the right people on board determines the success of any chapter. Something like this. I mean, the reason I got involved is because this means a lot to me, this charity. My wife was d

Start planning to replace your Windows Server 2012 now!

Start planning to replace your Windows Server 2012 now!

Is it time you thought about replacing your windows server 2012?  mark from m3 Networks talks us through why we might need to give our trusty old reliable operating system some consideration!
If you're still using Windows Server 2012 (a lot of people are!) then you need to listen to this episode...  Windows Server 2012 has been around for a while (not quite ten years) and it's now becoming officially obsolete.
What's the difference between mainstream support and extended support from Microsoft? Mark talks us through everything we need to know about the operating system's support options in this episode.
There are different aspects of it that will impact on different businesses, in different ways.
Regardless of the support agreement you have with Microsoft, Mark can talk you through your options. Scroll to find the link to book a chat.

What's going to happen to customer support once the extended support ends? The burning question.
Will you be left hung out to dry, or will there be options available to you?
Well, Mark seems to think it's something you definitely need to be aware of.
"Well, the most important thing to remember about this is that once it's expired, the product will almost entirely be unprotected by Microsoft.
Microsoft will not release any security, updates and fixes, which means that your 2012 server is a sitting duck effectively."
During this episode of the Techcess technology podcast, Mark explains what we can expect to happen from Microsoft, following their end of life phasing of Windows Server 2012, including:
What this move will mean for most Windows Server 2012 users  What you can do if you currently still have Windows Server 2012 Mark's suggestion for how you can prepare for the changes coming to the Windows Server 2012 software (Want to download your free copy of m3's IT services buyer's guide that Mark mentions in the episode?)

"Start planning to replace your Windows Server 2012 now Techcess Episode 51 transcript

In today's episode of Techcess, I'm gonna be telling you everything you need to know about Windows Server 2012, and that it's going 'end of life', which means that it's coming to an end. And if you are still using windows server 2012, you need to listen to this episode so that you are informed and can make decisions before it gets too late, and you find out that your server's no longer receiving updates.
Windows server 2012 and Server 2012 R2, or release two, are going end of life.
So Windows Server 2012 R2 was released actually not in 2012 at all it was released in October, 2013.
And the end of life roadmap from Microsoft actually began with the end of mainstream support, which was back in October, 2018. And currently we are in the extended support phase, which goes on until October 20, 23. So we've got just over a year left before we go out of the extended support phase. And after 2023 in October businesses still using Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 will no longer receive any critical security updates in patches.
So of course we recommend that you update your operating system before then. And to be honest, Given how long this server operating system's been around, it's probably not just an updated operating system. It's probably a hardware replacement of your server, or probably now is the time to have a discussion with your IT provider about, should we move to the cloud either fully to the cloud or in a hybrid cloud situati
