[STYLE] A. Nardi tells us about the Moretti, an emblematic jewel of Venice today at the heart of controversy in the English-speaking world.

In Venice, I met Alberto Nardi, a third-generation representative of the Venetian jeweler well-known for its “moretti”. This jewel depicting Moorish heads today arouses controversy fueled by the new cancel culture: it is associated with racism...

For Alberto Nardi, “This view of things, which comes mostly from the English-speaking world, is both sad and ridiculous.”

“I was saddened and angry that I could be put on trial like this, and that a part of the world lacking in culture could impose its own vision, says Alberto Nardi. Can a slave be represented like this, decked out in precious materials?”

To answer them and to highlight their beauty rather than any political connotations they might have, he now carves these "Eastern princes" in turquoise, amber, lapis lazuli, etc.
