Episode #88: Journey to the End of the East Bay

The 11th Hour: A Rancid Podcast
    Presented by Foxy Digitalis.
Well, that’s about it for us. Our final episode, at least for now. We talk about Journey to the End of the East Bay, we do the dumb fanboy ranking the albums thing, we go over key takeaways from doing two years of the pod and, most importantly, we tell you about what is next for us. If you enjoy listening to Sam and Brad talk about random crap, we will be debuting a live stream show called Endless Happiness: A Life Show in a few weeks. Come hang out and chat with us about whatever we decide to talk about that week. Same honest feeling and radical acceptance just without the focus on Rancid. Also make sure to check out Brad’s incredible new podcast Songs of Our Lives out wherever you get podcasts. And finally yes we reserve the right to come back to this feed whenever there is important or dumb Rancid news we want to talk about. So don’t unsubscribe! Doom Regulator is still out there! Breakups! New side projects etc… until then, this Sam and Brad signing off for new. Until next time, we'll see you guys later...

Episode #85: Radio Havana & Black Derby Jacket

The 11th Hour: A Rancid Podcast
    Presented by Foxy Digitalis.
Every time we talk about Rancid 5/Rancid 2000, our love for this record is renewed. It really is among their best work, and is such a unique entry in their catalog. We couldn't get out of here without tackling two of the big ones - figuratively, and in the case of "Radio Havana," literally. One of the longest songs on 2000, it wouldn't feel out of place on either AOCTW or LWW, but somehow it slots in perfectly here. "Black Derby Jacket" is one of Matt's big moments - on 2000 and just generally - and lyrically, it really lands. What a f*****g record!

Episode #84: Corazon de Oro & Crane Fist

Episode #84: Corazon de Oro & Crane Fist

The 11th Hour: A Rancid Podcast
    Presented by Foxy Digitalis.
This week we clean up important touchstones from 1998’s Life Won’t Wait. Our perennial runner up to possible best album from Rancid is certainly one of the most interesting and most listenable albums in the catalog. Though it is not without it’s major issues, including introducing the home listener to Tim Armstrong’s romantic obsession around this time - Brody Dalle. Thus cursing any listener who found the song endearing at the time. Plus, was Crane Fist a painful tease to a sliding doors world where there was a RZA crossover instead of whatever Transplants was?

    Episode #83: The Silencers "Policeman"

The 11th Hour: A Rancid Podcast
    Presented by Foxy Digitalis.
As we wind our way through to the end of the pod, we take a left turn into the obscure gem that is The Silencers “Policeman”. A strange alternate universe look at what if Vic Ruggiero and Tim Armstrong had a full time band together. A great excuse to wax lyrical on Vic one more time, and discuss the weird perfection that was the first Give ‘em the Boot compilation.

SEE YOU IN THE PIT!

Conflicted

They are fans of the band, however they seem to be stuck on the old classics and fall short on the growth that the band achieved as they have aged. The podcast is more a critical take on the music and not a breakdown of the history and meaning of the songs.
I understand that “AOCTW” is considered the best album and might hit nostalgicly to many folks. In 25 years “honor” or “Trouble maker” might be a favorite for people as well. So many great songs over so many years. I don’t think they indtend to crap on the bands post “Indestructible” period. It does come off that way ,seemingly degrading Rancids musical efforts the last 18 years.
Music is often about individual interpretation in the time of your life you listen to the albums and often reflect on that time when you hear the song years later. Every album brings me back to the time that album was released. I agree some songs mean more personally than others and some are better musically than others. I’ve become more of a fan as the band grows and continues to make the music they want to make with no outside pressure.
I’m sure I would be friends with the two podcasters but we would argue about the merits of the “Dominos “ album.

Thank you

Dudes, I'm so glad there is a place to examine my conflicted relationship with this band. HIAWK- do the first three songs together. That's the closest we come back to 2000.
