117.) Summit Sessions #39: The 4-Year old 46'er with Colt McElwaine

In the summer of 2022, 4-year old Thea McElwaine became the youngest Adirondack 46'er in history! A journey she began at just under 3 years old with her dad climbing Cascade and Porter back in 2020. An absolutely incredible story. Her dad, Colt McElwaine, joins me to discuss their journey to 46, how it began, how it went, and how to get young kids outdoors. A must listen to parents or people in search of inspiration. Tune in to a special interview with Thea at the end of the episode!

116.) Summit Sessions #38: Canoeing the 90-Miler with Nick Hall

The Adirondack Canoe Classic, also known as the "The 90-Miler", is a 90 mile canoe race over three days every September here in the ADK. It's been going on for over 30 years and this week I have first-timer Nick Hall to talk about his experience paddling all 90 miles. Nick takes us through the journey, day by day, start to finish. The miles, the views, the ups, the downs, the lessons learned, and so much more.

114.) The Return To Cliff And Redfield

114.) The Return To Cliff And Redfield

In the most epic rematch of the century, I will finally return to battle my arch nemesis, Cliff Mountain.

The first time I climbed Cliff and Redfield I spontaneously added them to my day while standing atop of Mt Marcy and lets just say it made an already long day a really, really long day totaling 17 hours, roughly 8k' gain, and 26 miles. Due to that my feelings on the mud-pit known as Cliff Mountain that day, my opinion may be skewed so it was time to revisit Cliff (and Redfield) with fresh legs, fresh lungs, and a fresh mind.

Cliff and Redfield, here we go!

113.) Adirondack Hiking Challenges: Good or Bad?

113.) Adirondack Hiking Challenges: Good or Bad?

In this special solo-episode I unload all of my thoughts regarding the hiking challenges that make up the Adirondack hiking and outdoors culture. Are they a good thing? Are they a bad thing? As someone who runs one of these challenges I see a lot of the behind-the-scenes so in light of the potential changes regarding the Saranac Lake 6'er I felt it was a good time to share some insight.

    112.) The Appleton Adirondack Staycation

    112.) The Appleton Adirondack Staycation

Is there a better place to enjoy a summer vacation than the Adirondacks? I don't think there is. So instead of traveling for our vacation this summer we decided to pack up the kids and the car and venture all around the Blue Line and explore our own home here in the ADK in a whole new way. A classic "Staycation".

In this episode I chronicle our whole week, where we went, what we did, the towns we visited, the mountains we climbed, the ice cream stands we visited, the waterparks we enjoyed, all from right here in the Adirondack Park. Come along for the journey on the Appleton Adirondack Staycation 2022!

Informative & fun podcast

The host James does a fantastic job bringing the beauty, challenge and plain fun of being in the Adirondacks to us, the listener. He obviously puts heart, soul and sweat into presenting these to us out of a labor of love. Thank you! Plus he sounds like a great guy to have a beer with!

Fun, entertaining, and spot on!

Discovered this podcast late in my ADK climbing career. 2019 46R (Haystack) but climbing the peaks again with my daughter. The trail narratives and details put me right back on the trails every time. I look forward to getting through all the episodes. The tips and history are really great too. Really makes me appreciate my ADK experience even more. Great podcast!
