Do you dream of moving to the beach? 
I dreamed of moving to the beach for so long, and now I can open my front door and walk down to the beach every day!

One morning I was sitting on the sand with my eyes closed, tuned in to the sound of the waves, and listening to what the beach had to say about my journey to living at the beach, reminding me of what I had to let go of and what I needed to keep.
How did I get here?

It all started with a piano!
In this episode, I invited Alex Sizemore, a Jacksonville Beach, FL native, to help answer your question: "How do I move to the beach?"

I was on the beach taking sunrise pictures with my new iPhone 14pro, and when I opened up my photo app to find some to post on Facebook, I glanced at the number under the “recent” file:  46,454! I wasn’t entirely shocked at the number, but it did make me think about how  I could have that many images on my phone!

There’s a lot of talk about how our “smart phones” are making us “dumb” - stealing our attention and taking us away from the present moment, and honestly, there are times when I’m on the beach, I’ve had to remind myself to put away the phone and just be.  However, I really love capturing moments at the beach with my “smartphone”  and sharing those moments with you! 

In this episode, I share my story of how I lost and found my beach connection - with my family, my friends, and my phone.

When I think about my 2023 beach bucket list, the ones at the top are on the Gulf Coast  -  the ones on practically every travel guide’s top 10 Florida beaches, like Caya Costa, Captiva Island, Sanibel, Destin, and Pensacola.

Jensen Beach was not on my bucket list, but when I got a chance to go - even though I had a lot of work on the podcast left to do - how could I say no?  When I hear "go to the beach," - I'm on my way!

I spent more time in the hotel room trying to edit and publish an episode, battling a series of tech issues, stressing out over some arbitrary deadline I created for myself - and missing out on precious time on the beach!

The beach was speaking to me - and I wasn’t listening.

I love exploring new beaches (and revisiting old ones) because each one has a different message for me - if I listen.  What I don’t know, the beach knows.

This episode is a continuation of the theme,  close encounters of a marine kind, from Episode 56, which I recorded with my friends, John and Jennifer.

I thought I’d start out telling one or two of my own stories of scuba diving with my family; I was certain that recalling these events would be like an easy drift dive in the crystal clear waters of a Florida Spring, however, as I sat down to take notes, it felt more like doggie - paddling in the murky water of my memories. I could recall the events - but few of the details!
I thought it might be helpful, and maybe a little more entertaining, if I invited my daughter, Baylee, and son, Austin, to join in on the conversation.

Happy new year, Beach lovers! 
I just wanted to check in and tell you a little about what I have planned for The beach Speaks in 2023. 
Thank you for subscribing and continuing to share the beach love - it means a LOT to me.
I just got back from a whirlwind week between Christmas and New years traveling around the Tampa area visiting our close friends - our "Tampa crew" - and a surprise visit to one of the gulf coast beaches on my bucket list! Anna Maria Island! 
Also, stay tuned for more stories of marine encounters, including a surprise encounter with a piranha and a one-of-a-kind dolphin sighting - from an aircraft carrier!
In the next few months, I’ll be visiting some beaches along the Atlantic coast, so you’ll hear more about that - and then. . .I’m going to Cancun!
