As part of the Beauty Papers x Good Trouble takeover with founder and editor Roderick Stanley, we are introduced to Sex Militant, a collective of artists and activists dedicated to liberating bodies from sexual oppression.

'We featured Jex Blackmore in the second issue of Good Trouble, when photographer Alex Austin and writer Charlie Utz went to visit her in Detroit in 2018 to talk about Satanism, performance art and activism. For the third issue, we were glad to feature her new project Sex Militant, a confrontational activist group dedicated to sexual liberation, with Alex’s accompanying photo-essay. In this first part of our Beauty Papers takeover, Jex and Alex had this video conversation.’

❤️ it, but please make it louder!

Love the podcast guys, but please make it louder. It’s so hard to hear your guests talk sometimes and I don’t have this issue with other podcasts. Would love to see all sorts of industry people as well. Keep it up!!

Absolutely Riveting

This gem of a podcast is a series of interviews with industry legends that are more like intimate conversations between friends. Rather than skimming the surface of styles and trends, these artists provide the origin stories for concepts that often begin on runways and photo shoots with a vision or philosophy that is far deeper than the end result of how something looks. As a visual artist, I really appreciate hearing the ideas and inspiration behind the designs as well as the cultural critique that goes hand in hand with beauty. And this series also delivers on great storytelling and humorous insights that come from being industry insiders. As a huge fan of Alexander McQueen, I learned even more about aspects of his work from the POV of hair and makeup as part of the overall theater of his shows. This is my new favorite podcast series and I can’t wait for the next episode!
