Danny Murphy: 'If You've Got A Ninety Per Cent Pass Rate, You're A Coward'

Danny Murphy: 'If You've Got A Ninety Per Cent Pass Rate, You're A Coward'

In part two of my interview with the superbly engaging Danny Murphy, we hear more about his relationship with the late former Liverpool manager Gérard Houllier, who guided the Reds to a famous cup treble.
We hear about Fulham’s incredible run to the 2010 Europa League Final under Roy Hodgson.
Also: amazing insights into analysing tactics and why midfielders who don’t take risks are just cowards.

Simeone: Atleti's Emperor with No Clothes #ESPNweekly

Simeone: Atleti's Emperor with No Clothes #ESPNweekly

    Hola!
This week's EPSN column focuses on the fallout from the weekend's Mardrid derbi. in which Real Madrid beat Atleti 2-1. I consider the parlous state of Atleti and Simeone's future, plus the racist abuse of Vinicius Jnr.

Danny Murphy: 'I Had One Ambition – To Play For Liverpool at Anfield'

Danny Murphy: 'I Had One Ambition – To Play For Liverpool at Anfield'

Danny Murphy is one of television’s finest analysts, not entirely surprising for a man who played the beautiful game with such intelligence, vision and skill.
In part one of our conversation, Danny describes being taken to Anfield as a child and declaring to his father that one day he would grace the famous Liverpool jersey. He was as good as his promise.
After a glittering spell, the classy midfielder joined Charlton. It was ‘horrible’ being at Anfield again in an opposition jersey, although his last visit there as a player, with Fulham, was therapeutic, especially when the Kop sang his name.

    Classic Big Interview: Emile Heskey

    Classic Big Interview: Emile Heskey

Here’s another chance to hear my interview with Emile Heskey from season five.
The title of Emile’s autobiography ‘Even Heskey Scored’ was a good-humoured swipe at the widespread fallacy that he wasn’t a prolific striker.
There’s great insight into why Leicester City’s players would run through walls for Martin O’Neill.
Emile’s big move to Liverpool required a major adaptation; he loved it and the Kop loved him, but eventually he wanted out of the Anfield pressure cooker.
Also: being a serial cup winner, how Steve Claridge was the worst trainer ever, and how the Golden Generation thrashed Germany.
