The U.S. Olympic Team Trials start today in State College. The Bryce Jordan Center will be at the center of the wrestling world over the next two days. And, Penn State will be well represented. Twenty competitors with ties to either the school itself or the affiliated Nittany Lion Wrestling Club will be on the mat for the men’s freestyle competition aiming to earn a spot on the team that will compete at this year's summer games in Paris, France.

"These guys are thinking about the Olympics," Lions coach Cael Sanderson said following his team's NCAA title win in late March. "They’re very competitive, as we know. And so it will just be about getting ready for that. I think we’re, what, four weeks out, and it comes fast.”

The Penn State Nittany Lions Football team closed spring camp on Saturday with the Blue-White Game in front of a smattering of fans. With high winds dominating the conversation in the stadium, what can we take away from the weekend performance? We're discussing the players that stood out, plus the interesting things that Penn State did that shaped the scrimmage on Saturday.

Join the BWI Live show today at 10 am on YouTube, or check out the replay embedded in this article. For regulars of the show, we'll be moving back to our in-season schedule moving forward with live shows on Tuesday and Thursday and our pre-recorded show on Wednesday. The best way to stay up-to-date with changes, breaking news and videos is to subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube channel.

Penn State offensive and defensive scheme notes
While a good chunk of Saturday's game was vanilla on both sides of the football, Penn State still showed some interesting wrinkles. Both defensive coordinator Tom Allen and offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki gave us a glimpse of different aspects of their new schemes. We'll discuss the level of aggression Allen showed during the scrimmage and what Kotelnicki did and didn't do during the 48 minutes of game action.

We'll also discuss the situation at receiver and which players stood out during the team's passing plays. Did we get a sense of who will fill in for KeAndre Lambert-Smith among the team's wideouts? We'll discuss Trey Wallace's performance and that of Kaden Saunders and Liam Clifford.

Finally, we'll discuss the quarterbacks, Drew Allar's performance, and how to gauge what we learned about them during a windy day.

Penn State running back competition continues
Penn State's top running backs, Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen, didn't play during the Blue-White game. That means we got an extended look at freshman Quinton Martin and redshirt freshman Cam Wallace. We'll discuss what those two players showed us on Saturday and how competitive the third running back competition will be this summer and fall.

    Penn State "Passing Game Purgatory"

Baure said in his initial takeaways from the Blue-White Game that we are in "passing game purgatory" after a windy and blustery day, which made it difficult to pass the football during the scrimmage. What should Penn State fans take from quarterbacks Drew Allar and Beau Pribula's sub-50 % completion effort? We'll break down the nuances of Saturday's performance.

The Penn State receivers were already under a microscope with the news about KeAndre Lambert-Smith entering the transfer portal late last week. Wide receiver Trey Wallace was the team's top target in the Blue-White Game, but how did the unit perform overall? We're also discussing the team's passing performance from the receiver standpoint on today's show.

    Who else stood out?

But it wasn't just the passing game that was an interesting focus for our experts. We'll discuss the defensive standouts and which players caught their attention during the Penn State scrimmage. What did the group think of Quinton Martin's performance? What about transfer cornerback A.J. Harris? We'll pull players from both sides of the football to examine their individual performances. Of course, the day wouldn't be complete without a discussion of linebacker Abdul Carter and his debut as a defensive end.

Finally, the dominoes regarding the transfer portal are about to fall in the coming days. Firstly, we'll discuss Penn State's scholarship limit and how NIL plays a new dynamic in what it has to do versus what might happen with player movement. Join the show today to get your thoughts on air! We'll be discussing comments in the live chat throughout the show!

Penn State will lose a receiver to the NCAA transfer portal once the spring window opens on April 16. On3’s Pete Nakos reports that senior KeAndre Lambert-Smith is expected to look for a new college home starting next week. The idea of him moving on following the 2023 season was an oft-discussed one back in January. But, he returned for winter workouts and most of spring practice, which concludes with Saturday’s Blue-White game.
Here is an excerpt from the BWI Live Show on Friday afternoon, where Sean Fitz, Nate Bauer, and Thomas Frank Carr discuss the situation with Penn State's top receiver, our reporting on the situation, and where things stand.

    Ask Around: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/ask-around-whats-going-on-with-penn-states-class-of-2025/

The Penn State Nittany Lions Class of 2025 hasn't gone to plan for the last week. The team lost key recruits from the region to top schools across the country at key positions, including quarterback and defensive tackle.

So, what's going on with Penn State recruiting? Our industry experts at Blue White Illustrated have been following the team for nearly two decades and have seen this story before. Today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show, Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder will discuss the bad, and the good of Penn State's Class of 2025.

We'll also preview the team's upcoming chance to change the narrative, with four-star running back Alvin Henderson making his decision on Thursday.

Finally, we'll preview the upcoming Blue-White Game recruiting list. Join the show at 10 am on YouTube or check out the video embedded in this article. It's a good time to subscribe to the BWI YouTube Channel so you don't miss any of our Blue-White Week content or breaking news.

Penn State recruiting misses that sting

On today's show, we'll discuss the team's recruiting efforts with Matt Zollers and Trent Wilson. The possible top quarterback in the Class of 2025 chose Missouri over the Nittany Lions last week. Then, the regional prospect at wide receiver Romero Ison visited USC and committed quickly afterward. Finally, top defensive tackle prospect Trent Wilson, who was trending to Penn State, made an about-face and committed to Oklahoma after one visit.

So, what's going on? Our experts discuss the typical ups and downs of recruiting and what's expected at this point in the year. However, there's a new dynamic in recruiting now, which they'll discuss with several of Penn State's misses.

However, it's not all bad news. Synder and Fitz will discuss the remaining players that Penn State can still sign this year. The team has several four-star targets that they can add over May, June and early July to form a respectable class. We'll discuss some of those names and players today.

Will the team get a third running back?

In fact, one of those players makes his decision on Thursday. Four-star Alabama running back Alvin Henderson will choose between Auburn and Penn State today. Where does the team stand? Join the show to find out.

    Blue-White Game preview

Finally, the team hosts the annual Blue-White game this weekend, which is typically a great showcase game for the team's recruiting efforts. Is Penn State in line to get any commits this weekend? Who is coming to the game? Check out Ryan Snyder's breakdown from earlier this week that we'll discuss on today's show.

Good podcast

Let me start by saying I enjoy All PennSt. News,
So I’m biased. My only complaint is there is little or no coverage of their most dominate program. I know my favorite is covered and I’m grateful but I knocked 1 star off because there’s rarely if ever any wrestling. Sorry guys love the football but I love Penn St. Wresting too. But all in all the guys are great. I enjoy their work.

Brian....B. ,

There are better PSU podcasts

Love the recruiting episodes, but I am not a fan of Nate. I’m looking for more analysis than his always generic “I mean, stuff is happening” type of responses.

Stephanie from PA ,

Never Miss!

Just to confirm your international audience. PSU Alum listening from Africa. Thanks for all you do to keep us in touch with PSU football and a bit of basketball/wrestling!
