Jesus made it clear that there was no birth right to heaven. He said that “no one” is born into the kingdom of heaven, you must be born again. Nicodemus was convinced that his standing was right before God because of his background and status. Are we sometimes fooled into the same thinking? Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” Believe in Jesus and nothing else is where salvation comes from.

Born Again

John the Baptist was a special messenger called by God to prepare the hearts of Israel for their coming messiah. Although he was not the physical Elijah in the flesh he came in the spirit of Elijah just as scripture had foretold. John was faithful to his calling and correctly identified Jesus as the messiah. He was willing to allow his ministry to become less and point his disciples to Jesus because he knew Jesus was greater than he. How do we learn to be faithful at all costs to God’s calling in our lives? Even when things may turn out differently than we hope or expect.

A Voice in the Wilderness

Jesus has always existed. His humanity began when he was born but Jesus himself had no beginning. He has always been, just as God the Father had no beginning. Jesus played a big roll in creation. The text says through Him all things were made and nothing was made that has been made. WOW! Think about that for a while. Jesus came into the world. God came to us. No other theology teaches that God came to us. Not only that but that God came to us to die. To make himself a sacrifice so that we might be able to be with Him.

The Word

Life is hard-none of us gets through this world without much pain and many scars. The reality is that few finish well in a life of faith. Paul was committed to doing so and he did. We will challenge all of us to remain true to the gospel, uncompromising with God’s word, resisting evil and loving both God and others. 

Finish the Race

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the only thing that can bring love peace and unity to those who give themselves to Christ. The gospel is the only thing that levels the playing field for everyone, regardless of race, economic status, political views or anything else. We are all sinners in need of a Savior and there is only one Savior for all of mankind. When the church is united around Jesus, it’s unstoppable in this world. 

Protect the Unity

Jesus left his disciples a new command: Love one another. A new standard: As I have loved you! A new mark: By this shall all men know that you are my disciple-IF you love one another. Love for one another is what sets Jesus’ followers apart.
