Sure, yeah. So I am Rosie Martinson. I live on the West Coast in Tacoma, Washington and the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I currently work at a healthcare technology organization called carbon health. And I lead the employment brands team, and I am on the talent acquisition team reporting to our VP of talent.

    Chuck Solomon  0:45

What led you into working into this talent or people space? What's your backstory?

    Rosie Martinson  0:51

It's a really great question. Because as as you know, I'm sure being in this world, some people are in HR, and some are marketing. And some as recruiters, there's lots of different ways to get into this space. And so, I actually am a marketer at heart, I've been in marketing for over 15 years, I have a public relations advertising degree. And about seven or eight years ago, as I was working in healthcare marketing, I was looking for something new, and I wanted to grow my career and work for a larger company. And so, I came across a demand generation manager role. And, you know, if if, you know, marketing demand generation is a marketing term, and it's a marketer that is generating demand, or a company's product or service, right, that you are marketing to your audience. Well, I joined as demand generation manager on the recruiting team...

It's going very well. Thanks for being a guest on the podcast today.

    Omer Molad  0:10

    Thanks for having me.

    Chuck Solomon  0:12

Appreciate it. So before we get into talking about candidate experience, can you give like a, you know, quick overview of sort of how how'd you get into the hiring industry?

    Omer Molad  0:24

Sure. So this startup that I'm a co founder of Vervoe is really my first kind of official foray into the hiring industry. Prior to that, I, my only experience in hiring was being hired or trying to get hired and, and hiring people as a hiring manager, which, which I did a lot of, in a past life, but I was not a recruitment practitioner in any in any form before starting this company.

    Chuck Solomon  1:02

Sure What, you know, you talk to a lot of companies out there, and I'm, like, you've seen a lot of, sort of can't good candidate experience bad candidate experience? Like, what are you seeing, like, where companies are getting candidate experience? Where they're doing it well?

    Omer Molad  1:22

Unfortunately, it's the minority of companies that, that do it? Well, in my opinion, and, sure, yeah, and if I had to really sort of boil it down to something really simple. A good candidate experience is an experience that sets a candidate up for success and, and gives them an opportunity to, to put their best foot forward. And a bad candidate experience is one that creates obstacles for the candidate, and makes it difficult for them to put their best foot forward. And all the rest is really just detail. Right?

And I could see different people doing their jobs. And I really liked the way HR, just the people interaction part of it. And so what I did was I put a bug in my supervisors ear, that's really that's really a like route I feel like I would be good at and I would love to take, and it just so happened that are all around HR accounting person left, and I was able to take on some duties. And the first thing I did was a sexual harassment training, the interaction that I had with the group, it really put a fire in me. And I said to myself, this is what I'm going to do. And I started looking for a job in an HR department, still in a state agency, and I got one that wasn't 1999. And I've never looked back since then.

    Chuck Solomon  2:00

Awesome. I love it bug in the ear.

Loved this episode. So relatable. I think often time this scenario happens and it can be frustrating. I love the idea of “showing love” to all candidates, whether you’re interested in moving forward or not. Good stuff!

RecruiterSally ,

Thanks

Enjoy listening. Wish you had more guests that actually work the trenches of recruiting and HR and slightly less consultant types.

Great tips

As a small HR team, I appreciate the tips as well as the guest interviews.
